A jumbo jet being chased by a F-16 fighter jets buzzed Lower Manhattan this morning, panicking New Yorkers, many of whom were forced to evacuate their office buildings.

It was not a terrorist attack, however, but a photo opportunity for Air Force One, sources told the Post.
President Obama was in Washington at the time, but the low-flying 747 circling the Statue of Liberty was one of the planes used as Air Force One, sources said.
The NYPD and the city were notified of the planned flight, but did not share that information with Mayor Bloomberg and other New Yorkers, many of whom said they were terrified.
MORE: White House Apologizes For Air Force One Photo Op
Hours after the incident, a furious Bloomberg called the photo-op "insensitive."
"First thing is I'm annoyed - furious is a better word - that I wasn't told," he said. "Why the Defense Department wanted to do a photo op right around the site of the World Trade Center catastrophe defies imagination. Poor judgment would be a nice ways to phrase."

almost something I'd expect to see in The Onion.

N.Y. Flyover Was "Felony Stupidity" [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

Fran Townsend, former White House homeland-security adviser, on CNN earlier: "I would call this felony stupidity. This is probably not the right job for Mr. Caldera to be in if he didn't understand the likely reaction of the New Yorkers and the mayor. And while the White House have said they are furious, I think they have to look at whether or not this is the right job for Mr. Caldera."

"I think this office is too important to have somebody who doesn't have the judgment to understand the impact of this. This was not necessary."

How about conservation? remember how they were appalled by the Detroit executives that flew private jets to DC?

So WTF is this shit? Do you think there will be the same media outrage? We already know the answer, don't we?

Well, if George W. Bush wouldn't have allowed us to be attacked on 9/11 under his watch this would have been no big deal.

Because without glamorous media attention, people will start to realize that Obama won the presidential election and not a celebrity popularity contest, and that's when everyone will finally understand how deep in shit we are. :toast:

Obama chopper data breached
WASHINGTON - The Navy is investigating how an unauthorized user in Iran gained online access to blueprints and other information about a helicopter in President Obama's fleet.
Employees at the data-monitoring firm Tiversa discovered last week that such potentially sensitive information had been viewed by a "malicious" source in Iran, Tiversa spokesman Scott Harrer said yesterday.

Tiversa late last year notified a Bethesda, Md.-based defense contractor that there was an "open window" in its network leaking information about the helicopter. But the first known breach came last week by the Iranian source, Harrer said.

Lockheed Martin, which is based in Bethesda and making a new fleet of presidential helicopters, is not the source of the leak, Harrer said. But he declined to identify the source.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said the information accessed about the aircraft was unclassified, and said the president does not ride in that specific helicopter. - AP

From what I read in MMJ's link, heads could be rolling at the FAA.

Either that, or the President will award James Johnston with the Medal of Honor

But likely one of the two
