Shailagh Murray, Washington Post

So in three hours, Obama raised a whopping $7.8 million.

At the third and final event of the blockbuster evening, Obama again vowed to break the Democratic losing streak by answering Republican charges aggressively and enlisting the American people in his cause.

“I will win. Don’t worry about that,” he said to the crowd of about 1,300.

The candidate was particularly fired up in this speech, confident and assertive, having finally shaken off the vacation dust. He was warmly received by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the hometown gal was neutral during the primary, but wasn’t shy about her Obama affection tonight, calling him “a leader that God has blessed us with at this time.”

Obama spoke at length about the difficulties that many Americans were facing (beyond these four walls at least), hitting similar points from his “bitter” speech, but without the guns and God landmines.

“Now, you want to win. And saying it doesn’t make it so,” he told the crowd. “It would be nice to think that after eight years of economic disaster, after eight years of bungled foreign policy, of being engaged in a war that should never have been authorized and should never have been waged, that cost us a trillion dollars and thousands of lives, that people would say, let’s toss the bums out. Toss the bums out, we’re starting from scratch, we’re starting over. This is not working.”

“So I understand why a lot of folks are saying, this should just happen. Why are we having to run all these television commercials? Why do we have to raise all this money? Just read the papers. These are the knuckleheads who have been in charge. Throw ‘em out. But American politics aren’t that simple.”

“The fact of the matter is, at a certain point, when government has not been serving the people for this long, people get cynical. They tune out. And they start saying to themselves, a plague on both your houses. They are willing to consume negative information more frequently than positive information, for good reason. They’ve seen how promises haven’t been kept.”

Things could get ugly in the coming weeks, he warned.

“They’ve got a whole machinery that they’re cranking out,” Obama continued. “They’ve got a book about me, that just kind of sprung full bore out of this guy’s head.”

“John McCain, all he wants to do is talk about me. They know they can’t win on the issues. So what they’ll do is they’ll try to scare people. He’s risky. He’s risky. We’re not sure.”

It’s an old playbook, he continued, but Obama said, it’s not going to work this time. “Not only do you have a candidate who doesn’t take any guff. Not only do you have a candidate who will hit back swiftly and forcefully and truthfully. But you’ve also got American people who are rising up all over the country and saying, enough is enough.”

While I was reading the article I realized it was the same rhetoric that’s posted every day here. “They’ve got a whole machinery that they’re cranking out,” “They’ve got a book about me, that just kind of sprung full bore out of this guy’s head.” “John McCain, all he wants to do is talk about me. They know they can’t win on the issues. So what they’ll do is they’ll try to scare people. He’s risky. He’s risky. We’re not sure.”
Ya, ya, ya it’s all about me, blah, blah, me, me, and did I mention I’m black, poor me, me, me. For a guy who’s supposed to be the messiah, he sure didn’t bring his A game Saturday and the MSM sure is doing a lot of whining. I guess when all else fails you can infer it’s was a setup and McCain cheated. Blah, blah, blah.

"I will win" is a couple of notches down from--we are the ones the world has been waiting for & Mr. World Citizen claiming the surge was wrong even though it worked.

The radio and TV ads I heard while out in Vegas for Obama were pretty good!

I don't get to hear those out here in Mass, being a dominate democrat state. He doesnt waste ad money here.

I really like his message, it's time to make the middle class strong again. GWB campaign just stripped us of everything and it's what made us weak.

Yeah, I hear you - he had a 21 point lead going into the 4th - now it's tied and he doesn't have the ball - I can only fathom the confidence his campaign must have right now

Most polls allegedly have Obama leading Florida - if you believe that than you also believe in the Easter Bunny - I have not seen one ad for him here - Obama is a fad and he's wearing off - he'd better pick beast or he's done

Your analogy is spot on. He's a fad that is fading. The MSM will tell you what they want you to hear about the polls and how tight things are in the important states. I'd say McCain is probably up 5-10 points where it counts yet we are being fed the "it's really close" bullshit.

Obama = Britney/Paris.

His 'message' sounds 'hip' the first few times you hear it but it gets old VERY fast.

id lean 5-10 point obama lead.

You come up with some pretty goofy stuff. If Obambi was up 5-10 don't you think the MSM would be pounding that down your throat?

The guy is running scared and they are telling you it's a dead heat. It smells fishy.

Obama has a lot going against him. Being the first black nomination makes it difficult enough to win, but it doesn't help when that nomination has a name like "Barrack Hussien Obama" with 10% of Americans wrongly perceiving him as Muslim. There's also the American phenomenon of building up celebrities and knocking them down, and Obama's popularity may have peaked too early.

I don't think he can overcome all that.

Barack Obama IS muslim, by muslim law...If your father is muslim, then you are muslim, NO QUESTIONS ASKED....

I think its great america is waking up and realizing obama is completely full of shit. This man will say ANYTHING to get elected, telling us we need to teach our kids how to speak spanish, what kinda crap is that? He reminds me a lot of the description of the anti-christ, born in 1962, in asia (hawaii considered asia when these prophecies were made). His name isnt 666, but it equals 18 with 675 (Barack -6, Hussein-7 Obama-5) He will spread messages of great hope and change, and all the people will fall for his act (baracks main message hope and change). With all this 2012 crap floating around, and it saying the real "funky" things leading into the apocalypse will start happening in 2008, we need john mccain, its 2008 and were already into shit with the russians. granted its not a huge deal yet, but give it time. We need Senator John McCain in these times :103631605

I think McCain is one of the most qualified candidates the US has seen in decades. A war hero who's been a Senator for 20 years, and neither right-wing conservatives nor left-wing liberals like him. I think he's perfect.
