What people are saying about Gaddafi and Libya, three citations follow, and the third one hated Gaddafi but arrives at a very telling conclusion

1) Libya under Gaddafi was not entirely hellish as the world has been made to believe. The citizens did not have the luxury of voting but Gaddafi made sure they had a high standard of living to compensate for curtailed freedoms. Was this enough? That is a moot point but the fact remains: Libya was a great place to stay under Gaddafi and is now worse off. Here are a few points which actually show that Libya was much better with Gaddafi.
Education and medical treatment were free. Under Gaddafi, education and health care were free for all. A response to this claim by Masareef Edareeya, a Libyan citizen claimed the quality of education and health was appalling but that does nothing to the fact that it was free. No system is perfect but most are imperfect and still expensive. Gaddafi made sure his system was subsidised and even Mercy Corps attested to the fact in its Beyond Gaddafi: Libya’s Governance Context. That is more than the so-called “democratic leaders” can say for their countries.
Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project. The Gaddafi regime embarked on one of modern man’s edifices of development: the Great Man-Made River Project to make water available to the whole country. As is known, Libya is in a desert region and Gaddafi’s plan to ascertain every citizen of access was the Great Man-Made River Project.
Libya had no external debt and had reserves of $150 billion most of which were frozen globally. Libya was a well-endowed state. To put this into perspective, the self-acclaimed champion of democracy and capitalism, the USA has a debt of over $18 trillion. Libya had none. Enough said.
The price of petrol was $0,14 per litre. In 2011, Staveley Head, a UK-based provider of insurance products compiled a list of countries with the lowest petrol prices in the world. China.org.cn reported the listing which put Libya at third position with its low $0,14.
Gender equality actually a reality. Women in Libya were free to work and dress as they liked, subject to family constraints. The “dictator” did not impose any particular repressive canon on women and considering the sensitivities of the Arab community to gender roles, this was a big feat. Universal access to primary education was achieved in a relatively short space of time under Gaddafi.

1. There was no electricity bill in Libya; electricity was free for all its citizens.
2. There was no interest on loans, banks in Libya were state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at zero percent interest by law.
3. Having a home was considered a human right in Libya.
4. All newlyweds in Libya used to receive 60,000 dinar (£34,470) by the government to buy their first apartment, to help start up the family.
5. Education and medical treatments were free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25 percent of Libyans were literate. Today, the figure is 83%.
6. If Libyans wanted to take up a farming career, they would have received farming land, a farming house, equipments, seeds and livestock to kickstart their farms... all for free.
7. If Libyans could not find the education or medical facilities they needed, the government funded them to go abroad. For it was not only paid for, but they got a £1585/month for accommodation and car allowance.
8. If a Libyan bought a car, the government used to subsidise 50 percent of the price.
9. The price of petrol in Libya was £0.09 per litre. NINE PENCE!!!!!
10. Libya had no external debt and its reserves amounted to £103 billion -which are now frozen globally.
11. If a Libyan was unable to get employment after graduation, the state would pay the average salary of the profession, as if he or she was employed, until employment was found.
12. A portion of every Libyan oil sale was credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.
13. A mother who gave birth to a child received £3447.
14. 40 loaves of bread in Libya used to cost £0.10. TEN PENCE!!!
15. 25 percent of Libyans now have a university degree.
16. Gaddafi carried out the world's largest irrigation project, known as the Great Manmade River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country.

And the one that hated the Libyan dictator

ery surprised, even I expected that a lot of hardcore Gaddafi fans answering there, are mostly Sub-Saharan Africans, those from Senegal, Niger, Mali, Cameroon, Nigeria, Gabon, Benin, Congo, etc. And their answers are mostly not the same and, not even coincidence to the North Africans (Algerians, Tunisians, Moroccans and Egyptians) thinking of Gaddafi. Very hilarious. So please explain why Tunisia can go successful but Libya? That's said, I will go to the main detail from an Algerian.
Libya was not better under Gaddafi. Gaddafi himself was a Bedouin, and he wanted to make entire of Libyan people to live like him, as described by the Green Book of him, to force Libyans to suffer a heavy primitive life as long as possible. It's worth to note that Libya had only 5–6 million population when Gaddafi went ruling over. Morocco had at least 31 million, Algeria had 38 million, Egypt had 90 million and Tunisia had 10 million, so easy to manage a country with such a small population and manipulate the number.
That's explained why Libyan GDP was high, cause Gaddafi successfully fooled the world based on its small population. Try it with 20 million people then it will be different. Unemployment was high, at least 30%, and over 4,5 million people received nothing from Libyan economic miracle.
Of course, Libya had free healthcare, free electric bills, and also, free oils and education system; but its equality was too bad and Libyans often went abroad for treatments. As from my experience before: Libyans had more money but not allowed to live like normal people. In Algeria, we have a lot of Libyans living near border. Just take Djanet.
To sum up: Gaddafi had turned Libya as his zoo and he saw Libyans no more but animals in the zoo. Libyans had already tried to overthrow Gaddafi for several times, with two notable coups planned by Khalifa Haftar, and Abdelhakim Belhadj from 1980s to 1990s, before 2011.
Having said that, I must appreciate Gaddafi's brilliance and gallant supports for his Sub-Saharan African allies: he had aligned with them to maintain popularity for the people in a desperately poor and impoverished region. That was the reason behind why so many Black African mercenaries fighting for Gaddafi in 2011 Libyan war, and why they remain crying for the person they already hailed as a hero which had done nothing more but destructions. And when he had alteady contained Libyans, this made Libya gone worse after 2011 war and overthrown of Gaddafi.
I think Gaddafi had already planned for a legacy once he was overthrown: Libya had to be razed by wars, by wars so that Libyans must miss Gaddafi. And he bought tons of weapons throughout 1970s till death, to ensure tribalism which, was the core of his undisputed rule from 1969–2011.
Take all over, Libya under Gaddafi was terrible, but it has fallen worse with his death.

Gaddafi no longer exported terrorism, that stopped after Ronnie bombed his house

Saddam condoned terrorism, financed terrorism, trained terrorists, sheltered terrorists, rewarded terrorists, used WMD, murdered up to one million Iraqis, and was responsible for millions of deaths

Yet democrats oppose his removal

It's all so damn surreal

Obama did not save the American auto industry. He gave them billions of dollars to bail them out, and they still filed for bankruptcy

They could have filed for bankruptcy without any bailout, we didn't need to waste billions of dollars to make sure the unions had a soft landing while all the investors still get screwed. Furthermore, even if GM closed it's doors, the assets would have been purchased immediately and a new company steps in and starts producing cars. Without the crippling restraints Obama imposed on them(he thinks he can build and sell cars too), like making them build vehicles AMERICANS DON'T WANT.

That logic is very flawed. But sure. Think what you want. I was making it a point that all the posters on here that obsessively argue and have to retort everything and go on arguing in circles over and over are the long winded blowhards that are broke. That would explain a lot. Because usually the unhappy/broke ones are the ones that are petty and bitter so they bicker and argue online about politics etc. Always have to get the last word. I was just making it a point that I'm happy and doing well so I don't need to be so insecure as to ALWAYS get the last word or get so worked up over people calling a current or previous President names. I'll make a comment or 2 then move on. I don't obsess.

I've come to the conclusion that you jump to conclusions too quickly and inaccurately and that's ok. None of us have anything to prove on an anonymous site. (although some of us are hellbent on trying)

Fine. I'm broke. I live in a basement and I'm 300 pounds and ugly af. I don't care. What people think of me online has no effect on me.

Some of you take this too seriously.

It's all so damn surreal

Saddam was not our problem and was no direct threat to us.

How many other countries have major human rights violations? Why are we so cozy with the Saudis who treat women like shit and commit countless human rights violations? What about the other countries that are supporting terrorism more than Iraq? If you can't comprehend the simple fact that Bush junior just had an axe to grind with Sadam since senior Bush had a hard on for Saddam back in the day then you really are naive. Not to mention oil and political influence in the middle east had a lot do with it.

Have you ever even served or been to the middle east? People to this day are crying over Saddam and say he was better than what it is now. Yes he was savage and ruthless but you try ruling a country in the middle east. Not saying what he did was right but it was his country, his dictatorship. We had no right. This is why Americans get attacked on their own soil because of people like you that think we have a right to criminally invade other lands for made up reasons.

It's all so damn surreal alright. How some of you just are ok with let's bomb the fuck out of that country, let's go invade that country yet cry terrorism when there's some consequences.

You realize it's your sons and daughters and family and friends that will pay with their lives because of the warmongering ways of extreme Republicans?

I know. I lost a dear friend on 911. I know for a fact 911 doesn't happen if we didn't have soldiers and bases on their lands, didn't get involved with Israel so much and all of our other stupid blunders with our foreign policies.

Terrorism won't stop if we change the above things but it sure as hell will go a long way. They will focus their attention on Britain etc more.

Talking about Iraqis dying. Don't be so naive, we didn't invade Iraq to save Iraqis from dying. As for condoning and training terrorism, Iraq or elements from there had NEVER attacked us on U.S soil. They were no direct threat and don't give me the they would have attacked eventually this and that.

I'm not even going to bother. I've realized most of you are set in your ways. Stubborn and old. I'm guessing most of you are older than me and maybe even seniors. Dead set in your old fashioned ways even though it's to America's detriment. We just need the younger generations that we've screwed over to take over eventually and start making this right. They aren't as bloodthirsty. They are worried about things IN AMERICA.

You know for a fact both Democrats and Republicans, many many of them opposed invading Iraq and they're right. You're wrong.

Go to the middle east and talk to some guy who had his mother or father or sister blown up by the U.S and explain they were after a terrorist or after weapons of mass destruction. Lol. The whole thing is so absurd and made up that I can't believe some people still buy the fake news that the government feeds us.

I can debate the rest of the nonsense too but I have to get back to work. I will probably get to it eventually.

This one was bugging me though. Lol. Saddam. The fact that Bush can sit there with a dumb look on his face and stumble with his limited vocabulary and convince people like you that we need to go invade Iraq is both comical and scary.

I'm not anti war. But unless we get attacked on our own soil we have no right. After 911 we should have went after Osama and killed him. That's it. Had no business in Iraq. To think we went there before we killed Osama. What a joke and a travesty. Yes. Obama killed Osama.

Hey, Pakistan is supporting terrorism, financing them, countless human rights violations, they have proven to be sheltering terrorists so why aren't we going after Pakistan especially since they train and hide terrorists that will probably attack American interests? That's right. No oil, no political motives in that region. Nothing to gain there. Pakistan is the haven of all havens for terrorists especially since Europe and America focus on the middle east to find these guys. (and they do yes)

I've been to Pakistan, Baghdad, Iran, I've been near very well informed Colonels. It's plain and clear to them we are losing more than we are gaining by supporting Israel. We are losing way to much money and lives having countless bases all over the world. We need some of them, but not most of them. Need to bring those guys home.

Don't complain about Democrats or people on welfare or illegal immigrants sucking the economy dry (at least most of them work or want to work) if you aren't going to complain about the bases we have around the world that aren't needed, wasting way more money. The support we give to Israel for them to further their political gains which again is disgusting amounts of money.

Fuck it I'm out of here. Have to go lol. Should've been gone 5 minutes ago.

You don't understand the middle east. Most of you on here clearly don't. It's just blankets statements and feeding on fakes news by the media and propaganda and general stereotypes and impressions. Muslims=bad, Israel good. America innocent everybody else bad. The middle east is way more complicated than you people realize and the fact that you guys think you know the answers sitting here on your computers acting like experts (I know I am too lol but at least I look at both sides. Israel has us hooked and we are sinking, you people just don't understand it the amount of money and American lives lost in this bullshit)

You get involved in other people's business and you pay the price. It's that simple.

Bring home our troops, shut down the unnecessary bases and lets focus on America. If we get attacked on our soil like 911 then we go kill the ones responsible which Obama did. Not use it as an excuse to further agendas like in Iraq. It's a slap in the face to all of us Americans especially victims and families' of victims of 911 that they play us all like puppets. This goes for both Democrats and Republicans.

Fuck, I am long winded. Do any of you work? lol. How do you keep up? Especially that troll greenbacks with all his posts (most of his 84,000 + posts are smileys I swear lol)

I have to take it easy with the posting too. It's becoming a little addictive I'm finding. Thing is when I post in the other rooms I don't feel like I wasted my time, but in the politics room I feel like I've wasted my time. Everybody on here is deadset in their ways so not sure why we are all wasting our time trying to convince each other.

Yes I as a Democrat opposed his removal. Not so much opposing his removal but did not want us to be the ones there to go meddle and take it upon ourselves. We have no right to force democracy in the world, criminally invade lands, kill innocent women and kids, all for our thirst of oil and political agendas in the middle east and of course to appease Israel. The government doesn't care about your kids they just want what they want. In the end when a soldier is killed they will take the podium and offer some insincere words and that's it. Also maybe use it as election gains. Disgusting.
