LANDSLIDE

I think the above is an enough of an "I Told You So" that needs to be said.
I'm still amazed how we (the campaign and the voters) re-wrote the political landscape the way we did. It's a tribute to the people how desperate and hungry we needed change in this country. I'm so proud of the country in ways I can't even describe. Barack is a once in a lifetime candidate that could only bring this country together the way it did.

Sekrah - You showed up. I honestly didn't think you would. I wholeheartedly accept your congratulations. Kinda tough to dig into you after reading your congratulatory post.

MisterMJ - Just read your congratulations post. Classy and funny.

Tocco - YOU ARE A TRUE COWARD.

Willie - Your class act and I respect you. Early on, we had some pretty cordial and enlightening conversations during the primaries. Somehow that got side tracked as the direction on this board got nastier and dirtier. In the end what you contribute to this board carries the most weight in my opinion I'd always be open to listen to when considering a republican opinion.

Carolinakid - You made it clear and loud that this country will NEVER elect Barack Obama and you pounded that into the ground many times. Dunno what else to tell ya kid.

Limbaugh & Hannity - The longshot, inexperienced, socialist candidate you sold him out to be won. This goes to show that the country is SMARTER and bigger than your bullshit race baiting, moronic whining and attempts to disenfranchise. Barack Obama won't try to silence you, thats the bullshit you wanna stir up. Nonetheless it'll be great to continue to have you around. Now that we have a new democratic and black president your whining and false claims will be great side show fodder for the next 4 years.

One thing I do want to say though, I'll never understand the strong support the right had for Sarah Palin. It never made any sense to me.

Technically wasn't really a landslide. Popular vote was closer than many thought. Obama ran a campaign that was almost impossible to beat though it wasn't based on any real substance. That is not to say it was brilliant, it simply attracted voters who really did not care what he stood for. In my opinion we have put an experiment into the white house and all we can do is wait and see what outcome that experiment will yield. Scary.

Don't have it in front of me but it's been a long time since anyone has received 52% of the vote. Use whatever term you want. How about DECISIVE? It was a rather decisive victory.

He may get +1 from NE

Democrat Barack Obama won the presidency Tuesday, but the question of whether he scored an electoral vote in Nebraska remained up in the air.

And it could remain unanswered for a week.

Obama and Republican John McCain were locked in a virtual tug-of-war in the Omaha-based 2nd Congressional District, with the election too close to call.

At the end of the evening, McCain led Obama by 569 votes in unofficial returns.

But more than 9,000 early votes and provisional ballots were still to be counted, said David Phipps, Douglas County election commissioner. Those ballots - some of them won't be counted until next week - could decide the race in Omaha.

So most likely we're looking at 364 or 365.

It's amazing how the pollsters really nailed this whole thing.

Congrats.

thanks corona. The rest of the world is too. Tom Hartman in his 2nd hour of his show this morning asked his American callers to not call in and invited his international callers to chime in. All 76 lines were jammed within 5 minutes as listeners from all points of the globe called in to talk about the excitement and celebration that took place in their respective cities.

Barack Obama
349John McCain
163

Here is my idea of a Landslide

1936 Roosevelt 523 Landon 8
1972 Nixon 520 Mc Govern 17
1984 Reagan 525 Mondale 13

This was a closer election than 1952, 56, 60, 88 & 1992

Anyone explaining this election off as a landslide is indulging in the oddest type of gleeful exaggeration.

Now if Mrs. Clinton would have been the nominee this election would have been a landslide. This election was merely a referendum on Bush.
Wake up Obamacrats, if Walter Mondale or McGovern were the nominee they could have won this year over a badly tarnished Republican Brand.

Slice it up however you want Pat. The only reason this election didn't end earlier was because the westcoast polls hadn't closed yet. It might not be a "landslide" by your numbers but it was a THOROUGH ass whooping as far as I'm concerned.

Fair enough:toast: I shared a few beers with some McCain/Palin backers last night. It was a pretty healthy and funny convo. As usual, it ends as an agreement to disagree, but in the end it was a toast to (1) a milestone of an election fight (2) we all agreed the country needs a new direction.

80 & 84 were also bigger victories.

Hey, the stars were aligned, it was a perfect storm for Obama and the Democrats.

They have their chance now, and we'll get another chance in the not too distant future.

Will, we've endured the last 8 years and this is where the country's at right now. A chance is all we want. Personally I think he'll find ways to work with both sides. Hopefully (and its a steep climb) I really think he'll be able to make strides in breaking up the extreme partisanship on both sides to negotiate solutions for this country.
