usc is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too fast for ND

and if USC needed any extra motivation - they just got it

Okalhoma moved closer to USC in the B(C)S and usc doesn't want to worry about playing in Miami Jan. 4 - meaning it is HAMMER TIME for ND

usc has to go out there and kill ND to keep their margin over the Okie/Auburn intact.

USC can put up 40+ meaning ND has to get 20ish to cover. good luck ND - you might need it

I'll try to play devils advocate. ND has a good defense. USC played 4 teams this year that had somewhat of a decent defense. VT, ASU, Org St., and Cal.

In those games USC has not scored 45 points a game. They did score 45 against ASU. but they averaged 25 points a game in the other 3. In my opionion ND's defense is better than all those teams except VT's and possibly Org St's. So if ND only gives up 28 points all they have to do is score once to cover.

I think the line may be too high, not because of Notre Dame's Defense, but because of their offense, which is vastly improved over last year's. But don't kid yourself, USC could score 40 on any team in the country, except maybe Auburn, but after watching Auburn last week, USC will blow by them too.

Guys, thanks for the posts. It just seemed like a lot of points when i first looked at it. I guess the BCS shoe is on USC's foot this week. We'll see what happens. Good luck.

Being a ND fan, I would only lay the points as USC's team speed will be too much for ND. Not sure how the Irish will score this game.

Don't forget that ND has the propensity for luck and big plays as underdogs--I guess god wants them to win! Also, this is a HUGE rivalry....I don't know if there are 2 universities farther apart geographically that despise each other more. Every time I bet against ND in a game like this they block a punt or run an INT back for a TD or some big play to blow the cover. Not saying take the Irish, but I wouldn't lay 22+ against them. GL everyone.

my first thought when i saw the line, was wow. i'm going to hammer notre dame. the last three weeks i have seen games and lines just like this, first thought of hammering one team, i lost all three.

the last three in the series

usc 45-14 @nd
usc 44-13
usc16-27 @nd

after watching several nd games this year, one that really stands out is the purdue game, nd can't stop the pass, and they are extremely slow on defense.

nd has moved the ball on every team they have played, so if they stay mistake free, they will throw up 20 or so usc.

but does usc play great and just blow there doors off?

nd has lost to some bad teams, pitt, purdue, byu, and should of lost to mich st if it wasn't for a couple of fluke plays.

a few weeks i said nd would beat usc outright, not so sure that will happen, but 22 points is a ton of points.

i think the over is a much better play.

USC is so overrated IMO. They have showed nothing to gain and hold that number one spot. Any tough game they had on their schedule, was close, save it for the ASU blow out where ASU decided not to show up. It's easy to beat up on teams like Wash, Ariz, Wash St, Colo St.

They should have lost to Cal, Cal is good, but USC isn't. It would be a joke if they win the BCS game because they don't deserve that spot.

Notre Dame, as inconsistent as they are, has to be the play here. They have wins over MIch, Mich St, Ten; losta nail biter to BC and 2 OK wins against Stanford and Navy, not that these teams are all that, but nonetheless OK wins (not quality)

Give me the points, and hopefully I will see you all at the bank.

I honestly think ND has a shot to win this game outright if they come out with their heads on straight, and put Auburn where they belong, in the National Championship game!!!

USC is 10-0, that's enough to keep the #1 ranking. Oklahoma has struggled and prevailed, and Auburn has played 21 halves of great football, but they have not played anyone as good as Cal this year in what is clearly a down year in the SEC.

I'm not saying that they are better than Auburn or Oklahoma, but give SC credit. They don't intentionally schedule **** teams like LA Monroe, Citadel, Troy, and they never play a division II school like most of the top players. The past two years they played Auburn at Auburn and Virginia Tech in D.C....they could have just stayed home and played Nevada or San Jose State. LSU had an open date, you didn't see them put their hands up to go play V-tech to open the season. USC will play anyone, anywhere. They scheduled BYU and Hawaii when those teams were regular bowl teams.

As far as playing poorly in some games this year, they had one bad game, Stanford, and they came back to win. The way Oregon State is playing right now it would be difficult for any team to go into Corvallis and come out with a win.

After watching Auburn play Alabama, I think Oklahoma is the better team. Take Auburn out of Jordan Hare and they are a good but not great team. Their best road victory was at Tennessee, which got beat worse at home by Notre Dame. USC will have a field day with Auburn and Jason Campbell, the only thing that will keep it close will be Auburn's defense. USC will have more trouble with Oklahoma, which has a more balanced offense.

The two best teams in the country are ranked 1 and 2.

WC, I agree. I give USC plenty of credit for signing a 2 years series with Ohio State for '07 and '08. I think some of the motivation for Pete is the deep talent pool in Ohio and the payout of 105,000 people at the Horseshoe as well.

Best of luck this week! :103631605

Please leave LSU out of this arguement. But if you must include them, at least get your facts straight........

For your edification, LSU HAD Virginia Tech on their schedule......but Tech backed out on us and we scrambled to add Oregon State. Would you call that scheduling a weak opponent?

My best luck betting against USC this season is has been when they've gone on the road. At home their very tough. The more I look at it, it's hard for me to go against the Trojans. Especially since they've had 2 weeks rest.

Pete...scrambled to get OSU? I wouldn't call it scrambling, but no doubt they also could have scheduled a pansy ala Arkansas State and Troy State. As for Virginia Tech backing out, did they not push the game forward a couple years?

LSU rarely plays OOC games away from Baton Rouge, and even more rare against top ranked teams. I know, they stepped way out of their box to play at Arizona last year, so they offset that with home OOC games against Western Illinois and their in-state rivals La-Monroe and La-Tech. Maybe they do this because the last time the ventured away from BR to play OOC they got spanked by VT. Of course they followed that up with home games against the Citidel and La-Laff.

Leave LSU out of the argument? They ARE the argument. I guarantee USC would open up a date to have a home-and-home with LSU...no way LSU would do it.

We'll see how "down" the SEC is when bowl season gets here and they wax ass like they do every year. ND beat a Tennessee team who was down to their third string QB. Not the same team Auburn crushed at home earlier.
USC is a fraud and is only #1 because of voter sympathy. The title game will be Oklahoma vs. Auburn, as it should be. Go Irish. :banger:

Dan,

I'm not bashing the SEC like many others have been this year, but they are having a down year. Tennessee has a **** defense to go along with their 3rd string QB, that is why they make ND and Vanderbilt look like world beaters. Georgia, LSU, they are good but not as good as last year.

As far as the bowl games go, the SEC may in deed do well...especially seeing that most of the SEC tie-ins will be against Big 11 teams. But I know if Auburn has to play USC the SEC will have at least one loss.

I gotta disagree. I think USC is the real deal this year. As I remember right they had the balls to go to Auburn last year in their first game and spanked the Tigers. They had no trouble cleaning Michigan's clock in the Rose Bowl. Face it, they've now got the great coaching staff they've needed for the last 10 years and they've got about 7 million people to recruit from in about a 100 square mile area of L.A. This team is going to be like Miami and Florida St. and just reload every year.
I've got a lot of respect for the SEC. From top to bottom they've had the best overall conference for years. But that doesn't mean they have the best team. After Auburn they fall off quite a bit. Georgia, LSU, Tennessee haven't exactly been world beaters this year.
