It's Nebraska. The second biggest thing they have going is watching the Big Bang Theory to see how the Nebraska girl is doing.

Not even close. #2 is clearly reserved for anything with Larry the Cable Guy.

I think it's awesome....wish more schools would promote it and turn it into a all day party with concerts etc...good way to bring in additional revenue etc...good for recruits.

Maybe it was a celebration honoring Bo Pelini being gone.

Certainly a contrast with Mike Riley in control.

And right during spring-planting time and the height of the tornado season....Those "farm-boys" always did have "big-balls".

Its a huge recruiting tool for a place that has trouble getting recruits to visit during fb season. Then the major airport is still 50 miles away. Riley is showing to be more creative in recruiting than the previous regime. Never would have seen the likes of Keshawn Johnson at a NU before.

Riley is daylight and dark from Pelini as far as personality.

He needs to have a respectable season (8-10 wins) this year and then build on that. The support is there. He and his staff have to step up an improve recruiting, to me, this is the big question with Riley.

A few years back, Alabama wanted to talk to Riley about leading the Tide...he wasn't interested???

Riley seems to be afraid of the spotlight. Ever since he bombed out as a HC in the pro's (San Diego), he seems to be comfortable out of the spotlight. A strange hire for sure. 9-4 will not cut it. That was what Pelini did. Riley must know that.

Yep. But I thought that Keyshawn Johnson makes all his money selling razor blades on TV.

Seriously speaking, I believe there is a very good chance that Riley will chase after some speed and size at the RB position. There have also been several outstanding WR's that he was fortunate enough to have had playing for his teams. He has shown that he can manage top performers in the past. I wonder what he's got cooking now (if anything.) Riley's teams often featured 2 or possibly 3 all-Americans or future all-Americans in the making. There were a lot of standout performances turned in by his players. When the Beavers were at their peak, they believed they could win every game from the beginning of the season and every Saturday thereafter. They never budged on the subject. Stubbornly. Riley had them believing in themselves. Considering the level of OS's recruiting success or lack of it, Riley would find himself in the position of having to draw blood from a turnip -- and he did so often. What more can anyone do?

What I find most intriguing about all of this conjecture about Mike Riley is this... now that he has far far more elbow room to spread the message to recruits and also has a much larger recruiting base (and budget) or in other words a program that is far more resourceful and sophisticated than anything he had before when he was at OS. He should have a lot more and better players at NU. So maybe we will see what he has learned from his experiences and how far he is capable of taking the Huskers. I don't think Mike Riley has ever been tested at his best on a fairly level playing field in a penthouse. NU scores a lot of "ataboys" in public opinion polls when they beat someone considered to be a tough B1G opponent. The opportunities will be there.I would be lying if I didn't also say that this being Riley's first year, my confidence in Nebraska football is also pretty low at this time. I think it will take them 7 or 8 weeks to get a handle on the offense and control over the game flow that goes with it.

You do know that Riley was twice offered by USC, don't you? One time before Pete Carroll was hired and one time after Pete Carrol left. Mike Riley said no to USC's offers twice. I think he's just a country boy at heart.

As I pointed out, Riley also turned down offers from USC in the past. But as far as his recruiting reach goes,
aside from his connections in California, he knows his way around Texas and he is quite cagey about the way
he gets players that he wants to commit. For example, Quiz Rodgers was highly sought after in the State of
Texas and also in the South. But Riley first recruited and signed Quiz's brother James Rogers (who turned out
to be spectacular on his own) which put closure on his younger brother's choice of where to commit to play
football. Clearly, Riley outmaneuvered his competition.

I did know that Riley was offered the USC job....and the Alabama job. I think he's the kind of guy that looks at "the fit". I never would have pegged him as an option at NU, but now that he's there it's a resounding, "of course". Just so we are clear, at Nebraska it's about wins but so much more, the same seems ti be the case with Riley. The fit is there. I dont think he will have one bit of struggle with the newfound media coverage. Nebraska is intense, but he has the PR skills and seems to relush it, thus far. I think he may have gone stale at OS. Perhaps it was as much the timing as anything. Rumors were contract restructure, assistants with less stability.

I dont think we will see the Riley offense in 2015. There will probabky be much more shotgun zone read than ge's ever done. Thats what Nebraska does best at the moment. Riley seems too skilled to know he doesnt have "his" signal caller. RB snd very recently Oline were two areas the last staff recruited well. As I mention cali's Terrell Newby is the returning frontrunner at RB. But I wont sleep on Texas bred Adam Taylor. He has the speed/power combo you mention, but the injury bug has been his undoing and probably the only reason he's not playing closer to home.

Personally, I like the guy. First, he's a Bama guy. Second, he and his family are good people. Third, you hear about coaches really caring about their players...I often doubt some...not Riley.

We all know good hearts/touchy feelings/and candy asses don't win football games. Riley is tough...but I think the kids have always been more important to him than wins.

He'll get 4/5 years at Nebraska to prove himself.........hope he does well.

They could use a speedy ghost to run the fly sweep. That's a job for the flanker. Unfortunately (knock on wood) there doesn't seem to be enough depth at RB thus far. Too bad that Adam Taylor is injury prone. A big guy like Steven Jackson would also be a nice "fit." I assure you that Riley and Langsdorf have their radar working 24/7. I wish I knew more.

Mike Riley is a nice guy who doesn't lack the killer instinct many nice guys have a problem with.
You can tell when Riley gets all amped up for the kill because he starts chewing his gum real fast.

It's true.

Conan, I'm thinking early on Nebraska might be an Under play for the first few games.

Don't think the Huskers have the QB to lite it up.....will be watching.

They dont. But dont expect a true pro-style pass attack. Shotgun zone read will have to play a big part.

Definitely a very warm coming out party for the new coach. Free ticket giveaways, 100
big turkeys and a lot of Nebraska baseball caps for the fans in attendance. Riley has been
given a direct mandate that he is to clear a cornfield and build a new Cornhusker Stadium.
He will build it for sure because he believes that if he builds it, they will come.
