Ya know, I manage to agitate a few folks here. Dizzy, who can't believe I cashed a ticket before the game ended, R.A. for some reasons that make no sense, it's all good. I've actually been shot twice and survived, so nobody will ever get under my skin. The Bird is leaving Wiley Post Wednesday to pick me and my mother up, heading to Tucson for my nephew's graduation from Zona. Kid is a scratch golfer, his dad and I took 5G's from MJ and Barkley in '93 when the Suns played the Bulls. We were out at my brother in-laws club, Phoenix CC and for some God awful reason, played with these guys. In any event, the real point I'm trying to get to is why in God's green earth does the MLB keep denying Pete his due. I played baseball from the age of 10 to first year at college and for some reason, lost interest and decided to go out on the gridiron (I played that in high school as well) and get my ass beat up every Saturday. This man holds the most important record in baseball, and I have the deepest respect for the "Sandman." It's time for the MLB to give it up and give the man what he deserves, a spot in the hall of fame.

Sorry to go OT here men, but when I saw that go across the "bottom line" on ESPN this am, I blew a couple fuses. Hell, I gambled in college, three of us wrecked two books. As far as I know, and if I'm wrong correct me, but he never bet against the Reds, only on them as well as other games. Damn, if Vandy had been worth a shit when I played, I'd been betting on them, LOL.

I'll help you out. First this belongs in the offshore or mlb forum. Second, there is no book that would cash an over under bet before the game goes 8.5 inn or 55mins in foots. Your tall tales are getting worst and worst. The game can be postponed or called for weather or other reasons resulting in a canceled/no action wager. Why would a book break las vegas gaming rules just to pay your sorry ass off?!? Did you ride your bike a 100 miles today like you claim you do everyday? Go get yourself a blog that way you can talk about yourself to yourself all day everydayShush()*face)(*^%

I agree that Pete should be in the hall. In fact, I don't know many that would argue Pete doesn't deserve to be in the hall when considering only his on-the-field achievements, stats, performance, etc.

The question is ... how significant of a role should "character" play when determining eligibility for the hall, while recognizing that the upstanding citizen criteria continues to evolve over time?

He should just come out and admit he is/was a degenerate gambler... and that he bet on every mlb angle and play imaginable throughout his career. Just fucking own it, all of it. Enough of the qualifiers/angles/excuses he has used that kept getting proven to be a lie. Unfortunately he is/was sick and has been unable to get honest about it, or parts of it. He still sits in denial aisle... and will only admit to various aspects after the evidence is released.

With all that said, my passion-for-sports side says they should still put him in the hall as he was a legend and superstar in his time.

Never claimed this was an everyday event. It happened once, the game was so over it was stupid. Listen, it's no big deal, as stated, I hope all here at the RX have the greatest holidays. I wish all you guys and I guess we lost our girl in Seattle, all the best this holiday season.

I believe Pete is in just about every room at Cooperstown except the Hall of Fame room. Just plain old BS that he isn't in the hall.

Couldn't agree less ... read Manfred's statement. Pete lied to everyone for twenty plus years and he still doesn't get it. I know I'm in the minority on this but Pete compromised the integrity of the game ... as a player and as a manager. As someone who has gambled a bit in life I can't help but think that Pete was sometimes betting on his own team, or against, based upon decisions he might make in the course of a game he was managing. Did Pete ever use up a bullpen one day and bet against his team the next?

R.A. from what I've read, he only bet ON his team. There's some ESPN shit that is saying he bet against the Reds when certain pitchers were on the bump. Don't believe that for a minute. That man holds the all time hitting record, 17 time all-star, .303 lifetime batting average. Give me the name of another player that has those stats. I don't give a rat's ass if he bet on tidily winks, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, PERIOD!!!

tmader he's not in it because he's an arrogant prick and a pathological liar..do the names BONDS AND CLEMENS ring a bell/ pete rose would sell porn of his mother if he could make a buck

Those that fessed up and apologized got their due and the adoration of the fans..even AROID. ANDY "misremembered PETITE" etc

Rose even told Manfred he stopped gambling later admitting he actually still does. He's an addict and needs severe help..As far as watching him play, he was fantastic and a good example for the little leaguers to follow..often kids were told, "play like Pete"..so there you go..just my 2 cents

Respectfully, disagree with you as there is proof, in the Dowd report, that he did bet against his own team. They found betting slips that proved it. Why do you think he agreed to Giamatti's lifetime ban ... because, he knew they had the goods on him. He is a self-absorbed, pathological liar who deceived all the players who supported him ... Schmidt, Morgan and Bench. He is and always will be his own worst enemy.

You and I need to break bread sometime, I actually like you. Dizzy is another story. I'm a Catholic, had to confess on more than one Sunday in the booth that I had lied about something. But his stats, numbers, etc. don't lie. My God, he's one of the greatest to have played the game. Babe Ruth is in the Hall and he was a whore dog and drunk. That better than being a gambler? I could go on and on, what's the point. And how did he deceive those guys? He gave his heart every time he hit the field, that man never threw a game, NEVER! I'm on record stating I gambled while playing at Vandy, but I was smart enough not to bet a single one of our games....... would have lost money, LOL. GLTA at the RX!!!!!!!

Dizzy, there was around 58 minutes left, point is, they weren't gonna go under when the total was 45 and the score was 58 if I recall. Let it go man, more important shit to worry about.

Betting ON your team is still a compromise of the integrity of the game, especially if you are not betting ON them every night. So one night you set your lineup and pitchers to go all out and win, and then next night you can tank it or use the crappy pitchers since you don't have action on it.

On the field, 100% deserves to be in. But as noted above, it was the constant lying and evasion of any guilt that really put him in the hole he is in.

Honestly, I don't see why fans get so upset about it. Whether a group of writers thinks a guy deserves to be in shouldn't change your own opinion of what he meant to you, or the game in general.

I saw him 3-4 years ago in Cooperstown. It was a few days before induction day, and he was sitting in a memorabilia shop, waiting for people to come in and PAY for his autograph, or PAY for a picture. Then a few minutes on the street to get some face time on the yokel local upstate NY news crew. It was kind of sad to be honest, and he looked OLD. Not that THAT has anything to do with the topic at hand.

I read that in the paper this a.m. Jack. Listen, I played bases for damn near 15 years, most of them while Pete was playing. There are three players I admire more than any other sports figures....... Pete, Jeter and Mario. Football's another story, I got a few there as well, Franco being one of them. AND Pete is old, 74 years. I'll be there in 18 more, LOL.
