I know I am going to catch alot of flack for this, and, I am not trying to be a jerk, but, here it goes: There is a borderline bizarre obsession on not just this board, but all the boards, with Northcoast. Do your books not let you play other games, or is everyone forced to play on his games? I remember one person writing in about a comment he made on his 800 comp line. They were laying into Phil pretty good, but, to me, I found it utterly surreal that someone who thinks a tout is terrible would take the time out of their busy day to call their comp line. I have been at this for over 10+ years, and there are tons and tons of touts out there. Why is everyone obsessed with Northcoast? People come on the board and go on and on and on about how awful he is. Get over it. Don't use his picks, fade his picks, whatever, but for the love of humanity, what am I missing? I would think someone like a Feist, or a Wayne Root type would p more people off, but, I have been wanting to say something all year about this hang up people have with Northcoast. I think his college picks have blown lately (see, there, you made me say it!!), but, really, who cares? I don't play his picks, its not that big of a deal. Flame away on me, but remember, I am really not trying to tick everyone off, just a bit confused at why Northcoast is always everyone's obsession.

REML- Good point but I do have to admit some of the posts this year ripping Northcoast have been hilarious and had me laughing. That being said, Phil Steele has had a poor year. I have always felt he is an honest, hard working guy who does the best he can for his customers in what is a very tough business. I would not pay for his picks but I enjoy listening to him on a radio show here in Las Vegas every Thursday and his newsletter is the best one I have ever read. By far.

I will admit he has taken more than his fair share of heat this year but that's the nature of the business and he and other services have to accept that.

Soccerbob -

I think you hit on the problem with Steele. When he wasn't on the radio, etc all the time, he was pretty good.

Now he is all over the place. I don't think that he really has the time to handicap like he used to. Maybe he has turned it over to someone else, or? He is becoming like all the other touts, who spend most of their time trying to get new business and little time actually working on their picks.

Zip/SoccerBob- Trust me, some of the posts have been funny, and, his college picks are just pitiful this year. I have had some dealings with Phil in the past, and I have found him to be honest. That being said, he picks way too many college games each week, and seems to try to come up with great picks that make no sense. A couple of his plays of the month were blowout losses. His NFL picks (except for the last 2 weeks) have actually been awesome this year. But, I actually agree, he probably needs to get back to his office and just handicap. I hear that back in the day, Jim Feist was actually a great handicapper. You only have so much time to promote, make appearences, etc., and still handicap. Anyways, enjoyed the responses. Take it easy.

We are watching him turn from a good legit service, to a lousy one inwhich he distorts the facts. He's Moving towards the Dark side, and as an Ex-Customer a few years back, I gotta see it for myself. Take this weekend. Everyone got the Titans -7, although he chalks it up as a win with 6 1/2. Yea, maybe if you bet it when the line first came out. When he released it, the line was 7. The small stuff like that is just for starters.

On his comp line, he'll give you the record or his plays for the past 5, 6 or even 10 years!! He won't give you his current record because it's lousy. He's right around 44% for the year in College. But you won't hear that. He's got execuses for the losers, and when he wins, you hear about it for 2 weeks. That hasn't happened much this year, but when Wisconsin won his play of the year, that's all you heard. How great that single play was, nevermind he only won 2 out of 7 games that week and is below 50% on the season, and that it's his first 5 star winner of the season.

And the same Lousy teams. UCLA?? He's had them 2 or 3 weeks now and they've been BLOWN OUT. Same with Nebraska, and the other usuals. See the NYG, TB in the NFL. It's pretty funny and I get a kick out of it.

We have fun talking about it, discussing, laughing about it as we were all followers, or used to be. If you are tired of reading about it, then don't click on the thread!!!!!! We talk about it because its an "open forum" and an interesting topic for US to follow. He has/had a huge customer base, and large following, and his top plays still effect the point spread by 2 or 3 points!! So he has a lot of followers and people that follow him. And with that comes lots of those Critical of what he's become. Kinda of like a car wreck you can't turn away from. I hope he turns it around, but will continue to bash him as I see him go from Handicapper to Scamdicapper.

Bottome line is still, Don't like it, don't read it.

I got Tennessee -6.5 at Olympic at 3:30. Not only that, but I got Baltimore -2.5 with my local. Shop around for those lines- if Phil actually bet his picks I am sure he would too, so I have Northcoast at 3-0 yesterday.
