LOL Blue nahhh I don't mind futures, but this far in advance it would take a really juicy number to get me to bite (20-1 anybody). Besides, I've got all my futures tied up in Illinois at 15-1. =)

Sweet! I like this, of course. And it looks like they'll re-sign Todd Walker to be the everyday 2nd baseman. I think that combo will do real well for a full year together. Anf then with Lee and Ramirez on the corners I think that infield is right there with STL, maybe better of STL can't keep Renteria.

It's a good move for Nomar if he's confident in his abilities. Has market value on a long-term deal was lower than he thinks he can get it to with a good year. So is banking on himself having a big year. I like a guy witht hat confidence in himself. If he stays healthy, I think he can do it -- maybe hit .330+, 25+ HR, 100+ RBI.

And I think Walker playing every day can approach hitting .300 or close to it, with 20+ HR's as well.

Now if we can just trade Sosa and free up the cash to sign Beltran... :103631605

Rumor also has it that Hendry is talking to the Brewers about closer Dan Kolb.

Reports say 8M for the one year.

Probably with additional incentives. This is really a good deal for all parties involved. Nomar is a 1-year bargain at 8mm and the Cubs have Neifi Perez signed as a good insurance policy.

CHICAGO (AP) - Nomar Garciaparra enjoyed his brief stay with the Chicago Cubs so much he's coming back, agreeing Tuesday to a one-year contract.
The five-time All-Star shortstop hit .308 with nine homers and 41 RBIs with Boston and Chicago last season. Garciaparra said at the end of the season that he'd consider coming back to the Cubs, but he wanted to test the free agent market for the first time in his career.

Garciaparra spent the first 8 1/2 years of his career with the Boston Red Sox before being traded to Chicago on July 31 as part of a four-team deal.

He played only 81 games last year because of Achilles' tendon, left wrist and groin injuries. But when he's healthy, the two-time AL batting champion still has plenty of power, hitting .344 and driving in 28 runs from July 1 to Aug. 31.

Garciaparra is a career .322 hitter with 182 home runs and 710 RBIs. He's hit .300 or better in seven seasons, and had a career-best 30-game hitting streak in 1997. He's been to the playoffs three times, and set an American League division series record in 1998 with 11 RBIs in four games
