YEAH-YEAH, EVERYONES LOOKING FOR THE FEEL GOOD STORY ON GREG NORMAN AND HIS TENNIS BANGING GIRL CHRISSY.
RAILBIRD ALWAYS IN THE KNOW, IS SPOT ON ABOUT THE TOUR PLAYERS BEING EXPOSED. FOR THE MOST PART THERE NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF GUTLESS PUKES GRABBING THE MONEY WEEK AFTER WEEK.
THAT BEING SAID, GREG NORMANS QUEST FOR KNOCKING DOWN THIS BRITISH OPEN IS A PHUCK'N PIPE DREAM. HE'LL QUICKEN HIS TEMPO WITH THE FULL SHOTS AND BE UNABLE TO RELEASE THE PUTTER HEAD DOWN THE STRETCH.

HE AIN'T CALLED SHARKEY-CHOKEY FOR NOTHING.:think2::hanging:

It amazes how freely people use the word choke, when they have never been remotely close to being in the arena.

He might throw an 80 up today, but I'd be willing to caulk it up to the conditions. You don't have to be off much to post some really ugly scores.

Norman didn't choke, Padraig Harrington played fabulous golf on the back nine and took the torunament by storm over all contenders includng Norman, who especially for a 53 year old had nothing to be ashamed about.

Harrington's double 5wood Eagle on 17 iced the tournament and closed out both Ian Poulter and Greg Norman. The shot will go down in golfing history as one of the most clutch ever along with a few others such as Tiger's chip on 16 in the 2005 Masters (he was able to tie for first and defeat Chris DiMarco in a playoff thanks to that shot). Then there is Tom Watson's lazer of a 2-iron onto the 18th green against a brutal wind followed by two putts to win the 1983 British Open title by a stroke over Andy Bean on the same course Harrington just won on - Royal Birkdale.

Great shots like the three mentioned above are what win tournaments.

Some say Harrington tempted fate by hitting the second 5wood but when you hit a dangerous fairway wood shot to gimme range on the second last hole of the British Open to take a commanding lead how can anyone say Harrington played recklessly. He could have layed up and risked a late charge by Norman to catch him but he didn't. Harrington was actually looking to make birdie and got the eagle as a bonus for his great 2nd shot.

Greg's swing got little faster on sunday, missed lots of fairways and made some poor choices. Greg is a young 53, dont think you can blame it on that.

Everyone missed fairways because of the wind, and if you asked any professional golfer worth his salt, they will tell you to a man that wind is the single most reason for high scores...Greg made a few mistakes, but he has nothing to be ashamed about..he played his heart out...had nothing to do with his swing...

Agree to the most part.
Lets not forget 5 out of the top 9 finishers scored sub 70
in the 4th round. He shot a 77 on the 4th round.I think it was windy for everyone.Choked, old age, call it what ever you want.He lost again
with a lead going into the final.

3 of the 5(Howell, Els, Karlsson) who broke 70, were finished with their round and had no chance to win before Norman(last group) even teed off. Harrington and Poulter were the only two that broke par that were in contention. Norman over the years deserves some bashing, but not this time.

Excellent observation. There is breaking par on Sunday in a major hoping you can make a few bucks for finishing higher up the leaderboard and then there is breaking par in a major on Sunday when you are in contention and trying to win knowing you have a shot.

Two very different types of rounds of golf. Shooting in the red and finishing 9 shots off the winning score like Els, Howell and Karlsson did is still no cinch but neither is it pressure packed like the rounds Harrington and Poulter carded.

Howell's outstanding 67 on Sunday followed a 78 on Saturday which gave him absolutely no shot to win, Els was coming off an 80 on Thursday and Karlsson at 13 over after Saturday were both cooked when they teed off at one.

Poulter's 69 was gritty but he was plus 8 starting the day. Norman actually had the lead on the back nine (on 10) but couldn't bring it home. Call him a choker if you want, IMO he played some outstanding golf when no one expected it.

Bottom line is Harrington's epic back nine 32 blew away the field.
