Hello all,

I wanted to tell you guys whats going and see if you can guys can come up with a reasonable explaination, because to be honest I have no idea whats going on.

Well, I have 7 years taking wagers (all sports and horses), I havent worked at a sportsbook for the past 2 years and half because now I'm working at HP.

Here's the weird part: since October I've been trying to get into a poker place and I havent recieved 1 phone call, I have 8 friends that work there and they all have given in my resume to their supervisors and gave a good word, and no call at all.

And now, my girlfriends sister works at a sportsbook and she said that a lot of new departments have opened up and they need people to fill in, I gave in my resume... still no call, that was about a month ago. BUT, my girlfriends best friend gave in her resume and she got a call a week later from that sportsbook...

So we were talking about the posibilities of why they are not calling and we came up with a conclusion that how I was born in the States they dont want anyone from there. But im legal here, cedula and everything...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advanced!

Have someone look at your resume, perhaps there is something in there that you put that looks negative in a very bad way or something

as for the god comment......we are hiring at the agnostic/atheist camp ROFL

Yea, I'm starting to actually think God stopped!

Sorry for the spelling, sometimes I'm doing many things at once at work.

About the resume, my Mom has seen it, my girlfriend, my girlfriends sister, my step dad, theres nothing bad, its just 3 pages long, where I went to school, my last 3 jobs and 3 references. Of course with my contact info and where I was born, etc.

And no, believe me my resume is not like that at all! LOL!!! Hell no!

It is a bad time of year, low season its a lot easier to get a job if you got a vagina unless you know someone, if you know someone AND have a vagina its just that much easier.

maybe in this case your experience hurts you. they might assume that you will ask for more money or perhaps even their company policy is that they start you out at a wage/salary according to your experience. if this is the case, then maybe they prefer hiring people with no experience so they can pay them at the bottom rung of the ladder. they might perceive you as being over-qualified. just a thought.

but yea, you might want to condense the length of your resume if all else fails.

also, i'd recommend applying for a job that you think you're not qualified for. maybe you were a customer service rep or a cashier during your previous stint in the gaming industry... now you're appling for the same job years later? shoot for the stars... apply to be assistant floor manager, revenue auditor, etc.

just some ideas. good luck to you bro in finding the job you want! (<)<

I think this guy makes a great point. They might think you are either too qualified, too expensive, or something like it. I do not know what you do in HP, and if you are still working in HP and looking for a part time or something... but they might see that as you have moved to something better. Maybe they think HP is paying you a lot (way bad misconception, but yes, je je je).

If I can add my two cents...

a) for sure, try making your resume be two pages, tops. Three pages is very likely not going to work.
b) have you tried having your friends who have given a good word for you, ask their friendly managers why you have not been contacted? Not sure if they are that close as to ask freely, but that might be a good idea...

Good luck!

As said before, make your CV shorter.

And add a salary pretension... so they know how much you want.

Most places this time of year are hiring people for training. So someone that has experience while useful, is not necessary since Football is still a while away. So they are looking for low cost employees.

Another idea is to go personally to officentro la sabana and other places with concentrations of Sportsbooks, and just go Door to door droping off your CV. I know that in a company I've worked for, we have hired people who come in this way.

Best of luck to you bro, and worst case, Augost is only 2 months aways man :)

Take out the stuff that is not relevant. If you are a line manager, no one cares that you worked at McD's 10 years ago. Worse it shows you do not have the common sense to leave that out of your resume. Finding employees with common sense seems to be hard to come by.

So you are saying I should delete the following:

paper route
Burger King supervisor
Race track laundry delivery boy
trash truck helper
beer delivery
7-11 manager
DJ
MOD

Yea, I was talking to my GF about the salary thing and the experience that could one of the issues, because I haven’t even received a phone call, not even for a phone interview to see how my English is. But I also think that if a sportsbook is looking for perfect or semi perfect English speakers that should at least call me and negotiate.

I haven’t left CR, I just went to HP

did you put a pic of your self on the resume???

No, I never had a pic on my resume

I’m going to take to my GF’s sister to see if she can ask personally and find out the reason why they haven’t called… GREAT IDEA! Thanks dude! Appreciate that!
