The NCAA is prohibiting the creation of new bowl games for the next 3 years
after 3 teams with 5-7 records were needed to fill the record number of bowls
(41) last season. Nebraska, Minnesota and San Jose had losing regular seasons
yet were given a bowl bid. Making matters worse, three cities (Austin, Tx.,
Charleston, SC., and Myrtle Beach, SC.) where in the process of trying to gain
approval for new bowl games.

More empty seats than people were common last bowl season as attendance
dropped. Heavy hitter bowls like the Bahamas Bowl (13,123), St. Petersburg
Bowl (14,652), Cure Bowl (18,536), Idaho Potato Bowl (18,876), Miami Beach
Bowl (21,712), Camellia Bowl (21,395), Poinsettia Bowl (21,501), Arizona Bowl
(20,425) to name a few had trouble filling seats last season. Keep in mind,
numbers are usually based on tickets distributed opposed to actual tickets sold
or turnstile clicks so actual attendance was much less.

If I had a vote with the NCAA, and I don't, I would recommend bowl eligible teams
would have to win 7 games to be invited to a bowl. My opinion and I welcome
yours............................

Start cutting bowl games. Need to drop 7 just to fill enough slots for last year.

Yes, that point of view is given often when discussing too many bowl games.

I guessing with the NFL, NBA, CBB, NHL going on during bowl season,
if someone was looking for a wager...would be easy to find.

I agree. CFB is the game I like to bet on and there are wonderful winning opportunities these crap bowl games offer.

An obvious attempt to punish the Palmetto State for firing Spurrier; as the Myrtle Beach Bowl would be the Gamecocks one chance to win a bowl game.

I gotta think the players....considering the sad financial most are in...didn't mind at all having a week vacation in the Bahamas, Miami or st Pete fla....not that the players feelings matter....I mean give these kids a little reward for playing their ass off all year...who cares if anyone is in the stands

No butts in the seats...little ticket revenue.

Most of the schools going to these small time bowls lose money.

Most can't afford to lose money and it affects other school teams that live
off football money. Yeah, send the FB players on a vacation at the expense
of the other athletes in basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, volleyball etc..
Makes perfect sense to me!

I always liked the "Meinecke Car-Care Bowl"....It always had "hint" of the NASCAR culture during the pre-game festivities. I wouldn't be surprised if
"Red Elephants" was in attendance for a lot of the games.....Red is a big race car fan........He knows how to pick winners at a pretty good-clip......

Mack, I go back to when I was a kid and would not miss the Rose, Sugar, Cotton or Orange bowls. Didn't
matter who was playing...it was "the best" if you loved college football. Of course if Bama was going to
the Liberty Bowl, that was a counter also.

Hell, I can only watch about 8 or 10 of the bowls now. The others are like watching spring games. Boring
as painting a house.
