I agree that knocking reduces effectiveness of police searches.

Why should police knock on a door if they already have a warrant, and I hope it takes probable cause to obtain a search warrant.

Apparently, courts have said a "reasonable time" for police, after announcing their presence to wait before entering a home is 20 seconds.

Alot of reefer, coke, and other drugs can be flushed in the toilet bowl in 20 seconds.

So if someone exercises their 2nd Amendment right to shoot any uninvited intruder in their home, and that intruder ends up being a cop with a warrant in his hand, will you support the homeowner?

The decision flew in the face of and effectively reversed 100 years worth of precedent on the issue. So much for stare decisis and respecting precedent from Scalito and Roberts.

It depends if you are in a place with a Low flow toilet or not. 20 seconds doesn't even give the bowl time to refill. Pot clogs the toilet, powders leave dust around the bowl, and if they find the dust they can rip apart your plumbing...so I've heard

I stand corrected....yes, makes sense for them to knock.

I dont want to go to jail if cops kick down my door and give them my best Clint Eastwood imitation.

Doesnt 20 seconds seem like a long time for cops to be able to enter?

I doubt they actually wait 20 seconds after they knock on the door.

Another question...has anyone ever known a cop to ring the doorbell or do they always give a physical knock?

I cannot recall seeing cops ringing a doorbell on any of the cop tv shows.

WOOF I got a story. This is what hapened to me. Cops got a 911 call about a domestic dispute, so all the sudden at about 3am on a weekday I hear a banging on mt front door (BTW brand fucking new put it in the week before). Dog is going nuts at the window the wife and I wake up. Not sure what the hell is happening. So I go downstairs look out the window and see 3 cop cars. So I answer the door they put the light in my eyes and ask what is going on in here. LOL I say what the hell ya talking about. I have no idea. As they are quesioning about what 's been happening that night across the street a woman gets chased out of her house running and screming that her husband is nuts and all that shit. LOL So they just stop talking to me nd go arrest the husband. Turns out they beat on my fucking door with the bottom end of the flashlight and to this day I have 5 dents in it. I called the cops back to show them what the fuck they did. I could have made a formal complaint to get the door fixed. I told the cop yeah sure I want to complain about a cop and make my life hell if the cop would choose to do so.

So no WOOF they don't ring the doorbell. The doorbell was 6 inches from where they beat on my door. Fucking jerks.

Who are you kidding you would have 27 bullets in you before you got the second shot off. You wouldn't make it to jail.

Bill, I probably have higher powered weaponry than 90% of street cops.

Also, I spent a number of years in Uncle Sams Army learning how to shoot & blow up things.

This aint Canada bro....folks are armed here in the land of John Wayne.

Anyway, should be interesting watching the courts continue their shift with this very conservative Supreme Court.
