Lost 5 units on Bondarenko on Friday, and I am looking to rebound with this one.

Davydenko comes into the match scrapping out two victories over fellow countryman Korolev and "rookie" Guccione who had a great serve. Davydenko has already expressed his hatred for this surface and he doesn't make it any easier with his comments this morning about how it's so boring to be at Wimbledon. Just like his friend Marat Safin, the obvious indifference he has for this tournament is quite alarming. Mental grudges aside, Davydenko has also struggled to hold his serve these past two matches, and he was on the verge of elimination against Guccione but a valient comeback brought him into the third round.

Gael Monfils is an up-and-coming tennis player from France and he was a solid juniors player, a Wimbledon champion being in his resume. Monfils looked solid in his first two rounds against decent grass court players, and it was his serve that looked very impressive. The strokes are there, but as long as he keeps a cool head, he can advance to the fourth round.

I wagered on Monfils -160 to win 4 units (risk 6.4 units) against Davydenko, and hopefully the match will be played tomorrow morning. It raises an eyebrow for an unseeded player to be such a high favorite over the #6 seed, and there's definitely a reason for it. Look for Monfils to dictate the match with his solid serve and he won't have any chinks in his armor like Guccione had. Hopefully, Davydenko will get his wish and leave Wimbledon by tomorrow night.

Good Luck guys.

he nearly won the GS as a junior to join Edberg as the last to do it, failed at The US Open. At 6'4 he is an impressive player for all surfaces, imo.

Nick Bollettieri is sure impressed:

I watched him beat Kristof Vliegen yesterday, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6 and... Holy Cow! He's a great shot-maker, covered the court like a skater, served big, played the big points superbly. His volleys need work, on the backhand side especially. But his agility? My move of the day was when he almost ran into the net. Instead, he pirouetted at speed and cleared it from a standing start - backwards!
Pound for pound, Monfils is the best athlete on the tour, bar none

kudos to France as they have 3 fantastic young talents -- Monfils, Gasquet, Tsonga. How about that?

He may not like the grass, but some positive results in his career can validate a play on him over the apathetic Davydenko. A lot of people are backing Davydenko here, and rightfully so with the value he possesses, but I know that the Russian will need to dig deep to win this one cleanly. Gael has the weapons to win this, but I hope he won't unravel like Bondarenko on Friday. Good Luck.

I don't get all the love for Monfils... Nikolay has too much an edge in experience. And I think Monfils can not mentally stay composed facing lots of BPs

A quick Gael Monfils story.

Gael was in Vegas for the Tennis Channel Open, he lost the 1st rouind. Someone asked if he wanted to play paddle tennis in the main draw as they were having a 10K tournament for the US Open Championship. He NEVER played it in his life but said he would give it a try, he ended up playing 20 time World Champion Scott Freedman in the Finals and beat him 6-4, 6-4. It was one of the most entertaining sporting events I have ever seen. There is a you tube video of out there somewhere.

wow, great story rail. Monfils was broken the first game and isn't returning well so far. Hopefully, things will change and maybe he'll bounce back after this rain delay while davydenko naps somewhere.

davydenko is playing terrific tennis, while Monfils is playing like crap throwing the racket around.

Another big loss for me and I think ill step away from davydenko's matches.
