Exxon Mobil profit rises on soaring prices
Thu Apr 27, 2006 8:28am ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp., the world's largest publicly traded oil company, on Thursday reported quarterly profit surged, driven by rising oil prices.

Net income in the first quarter was $8.4 billion, or $1.37 a share, up from $7.86 billion, or $1.22 a share, a year earlier.

Revenue jumped to $88.98 billion from $82.05 billion.

Crude oil prices have risen steadily from about $20 a barrel in 2002 to over $75 last week, handing oil and gas companies a long-running profit bonanza.

But the fat profits have also angered U.S. drivers grappling with rising gasoline prices and provoked sharp criticism of Big Oil from lawmakers and consumer advocates.

Pretty nice eh? A bought and paid for oilman in the White House? $20 a barrel in 2002, $75 a barrel now. Huuuum, I guess all you guys believe me now- when it's too late to put the genie back in the bottle. Shame on you cons, now that the chickens are coming home to roost in your pocketbook it's too late. Hey, let's start another war for our Saudi brothers. Maybe oil will be $150 a barrel!

People in the US have no idea what Kraft Dinner is! LOL! That's only in Canada! In the States it is simply Kraft Macaroni And Cheese!

I guess it was fine when the oil companies weren’t making piss over a decade ago – nobody complained back then. And I guess it’s also honky dory, government taxes account for almost a ¼ of the purchase price of gasoline. No problem there, either.

It’s all Exxon’s fault! Corrupt greedy capitalist swine!

Hey, here’s an idea. Everybody log onto your Ameritrade account, and load up on Exxon stock! If ya can’t beat’em, join’em.

Did any of you even know that they missed their forecasted projection?

Prolly not because you skipped that part.....stop buying gas if you al dont like it.

Someone who did not miss:

LAS VEGAS - Harrah's Entertainment Inc., the world's largest casino operator, on Thursday said its acquisition of rival Caesars helped lift first-quarter net income 75 percent, topping Wall Street views. <SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a == null) document.write("<scr" + "ipt type=text/javascript src=""http://us.js2.yimg.com/us.js.yimg.com/lib/bc/bc_1.7.3.js></scr" + "ipt>");</SCRIPT><SCRIPT type=text/javascript>if (window.yzq_a){yzq_a('p', 'P=UkPngESOwhVxuaRwRCsFuBYQw68lCERQ2TwADhdz&T=19j1u89hm%2fX%3d1146149180%2fE%3d8903535%2fR%3dnews%2fK%3d5%2fV%3d1.1%2fW%3d8%2fY%3dYAHOO%2fF%3d2279556436%2fH%3dY2FjaGVoaW50PSJuZXdzIiBjb250ZW50PSJpbnRlZ3JhdGlvbjtkb2xsYXI7dHJhZGluZztyZWZ1cmxfbmV3c195YWhvb19jb20iIHJlZnVybD0icmVmdXJsX25ld3NfeWFob29fY29tIiB0b3BpY3M9InJlZnVybF9uZXdzX3lhaG9vX2NvbSI-%2fS%3d1%2fJ%3d4CC28E44');yzq_a('a', '&U=139sk44m6%2fN%3dqvKGiESOxIY-%2fC%3d391840.8408196.9209617.1442997%2fD%3dLREC%2fB%3d3373482');}</SCRIPT><NOSCRIPT>

Harrah's said profit rose to $182.4 million, or 98 cents per share, from $103.8 million, or 90 cents per share, in the previous first quarter. Earnings from continuing operations rose to 95 cents per share from 77 cents in the year-ago January-March period.
Gary Loveman, Harrah's chairman, president and chief executive, said the integration of Caesars created savings for the company ahead of schedule. The $9 billion acquisition of Caesars Entertainment Inc. last year was pinned as among the biggest reasons revenue surged 93 percent to $2.4 billion from $1.2 billion in the year-ago period.
Results easily topped Wall Street projections for earnings of 92 cents per share on $2.24 billion of revenue, according to analysts polled by Thomson Financial.
Loveman said the company achieved its projected $80 million first-year synergy target for the Caesars properties by the end of the first quarter — three months ahead of schedule. Looking forward, he projects the second year of Caesars ownership will yield about $180 million of synergies.
This also comes despite the loss of casino operations due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Harrah's owns casinos in both New Orleans and Biloxi, Miss., that were damaged and closed due to the storms.
The company is also moving ahead with plans for ventures in Spain, Slovenia and the Bahamas, and recently submitted a final bid for a multibillion dollar resort in Singapore.

Joe: I don't believe you on the oil companies not making anything a decade ago. There's no way in hell that they weren't making money. I agree with a lot of your posts but these oil company execs are greedy bastards that disgust me.

That's like these sports' franchise owners crying poor - that's horse hockey and so are the oil companies' crocodile tears. They are experts at hiding windfalls, both of 'em.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Since 2000, I have bought oil stocks to offset the higher price of gas at the pump. Except now, I'm taking the train and taxis and my company is reimbursing me for it.

Teachers are applauded for their generally poor service and are paid more than they are worth because of government protection, but these oil guys who help us get to work everday are the enemies for providing something we all need? These oil guys need to get the union spinsters on their side.

Why do these people who hate the oil companies for providing a great service LOVE it when the little guy screws us over with government help. A tree in my yard was ready to fall at any time, so we get an appraisal from some union guy with his fancy liscence who said he could cut it down for $950. $950 for 30 minutes worth of work? I think we need to get some mexicans up in CT.

Now that is funny. Have a feeling Doc for sure will learn how to bake them cookies soon. :lolBIG:

And so this doesn't get pulled and lumped with spam.....Exxon does have a right to make profits. Perhaps just not as much? Or maybe Govt taxation on gas takes a break for a bit??

Why did you call a union guy if you hate unions so much? There are plenty of people that probably would have done it that are non union. Teachers are paid too much but oil company execs aren't? I'm speechless levi.

I thought he was going to say something realistic like $250 at the most, but $950 just pissed me off considering he was only going to work for a half hour. A neighbor eventually helped us take it down and we helped him take down one of his trees. Not all people can do this, the ones that need a tree down have to pay insanely high prices because you need a liscence to do the job.

People are poorly educated and they don't usually even use what they learn in school for their jobs. We depend on these oil guys every day.

:lolBIG: Must have been your teachers Levi!:lolBIG: What do they say? Proof is in the pudding - whatever the hell that means!

My kids' teachers have all been diligent, hard-working and competent in their teaching duties. Maybe it's the chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes I send in for the class and teachers.

If only Bush and his pals were nearly as efficient and diligent!

My teacher was a hot blonde, busty babe in her 20s, who tried to molest me....
