Calgary Flames +140

On Wednesday the Canucks shocked Kipprusoff with two power play goals in the first five minutes. Faced with this hurdle the Flames carried the play and had to open up their game to re-group. The result was to tie up the game at 2, (on their own power play), in the second period only to fall back once more. It wasn’t for lack of effort that the Flames lost this game. It was those two early goals before they could break a sweat that set the tone to this game.

The refs are calling everything in all the games so far. They are obviously under orders to do so and all it’s doing is ruining what already works. NHL playoffs is some of the best sport there is. Why frustrate and confuse players and suddenly change what they’ve known all season long? Of the eight goals scored in last Wednesday’s game all but two were on the power play.

I’m still a believer that Mikka Kipprusoff is a better goalie than Dan Cloutier and I still think that the Flames have a better squad than the Canucks. But they must play their defensive style of game and not have to overcome two goals before the first commercial break.

I hope the refs put the whistles in their pocket and let the boys play. Whether they do or not there will be no surprises anymore. The message has been sent and look for a very determined Calgary team to even up this series.

I completely agree with you on all of this....

One thing still bothers me a little bit.

With the refs being aggresive their penalty calling, we are seeing more and more stupid penalties being called. As a result we have all seen several penalty shots, several 4 on 4's, even a few 5 on 3's....

With these kinds of situations occuring more and more, can the Calgary squad beat the Nucks?

Ironically, Calgary and Vancouver are basically the same when it comes to PPG and PPO. They are both ranked about #20 for their special teams.

But what I saw the other night, was a lack of movement on the calgary squad when they had the advantage. I think they even had a two man advatage at one point and failed to take SOG.

I am with you tonight on the calgary pick. In fact I came to the forum to see what some you all thought about it.

I have this feeling that if I will keep taking them, they will win!

So I am with them tonight!

I am also looking at the under on this one. I know that sounds crazy to many of you, but I have a feeling the tone of this game will be completely different from the last.

I am hoping to see the goilies a little more calm, and ready to lock down the 5 hole!

Whatcha all thinking here?

Here's an opinion.

I would not bet on Dan Cloutier with your $, also I do not expect 4 power play goals from the Canucks again tonight. Gotta take the Flames, they have been resilient all season and should come out with more jump early in this game.

Just got in but I agree with Mr NJ. Calgary will not sleep walk in this one and will come out firing. Regarding the PPs. I think the message has been sent and the teams will adjust. You won't see another 16 penalties called in this one tonight....at least one can hope!

Vic. I guess you posted the "you will not see 16 penalties called" before you saw Fraser and Van massenhoven on the ice for game 2.

They are brutal.

Mr NJ...gee I don't know...only 14 penalties is a real improvement don't you think?

In all honsety all the calls are brutal and petty in ALL the games, in my opinion. It's not who's wearing the red arm bands that are to blame for this fiasco.

What's wrong with these people? If it's not this ridiculous over reaction to trying to protect the goalie and his ability to defend his net or some minor holding of a stick, some chump taking a dive over a guy behind him barely laying a “hook” on him. They are ruining this sport. What do they do for a encore? How about a lockout in ‘04-‘05?

I love hockey but the NHL is ridiculous the way they run their sport. They change the rules every 2 weeks. You can kill a guy with the puck but if you lay a glove on a guy 3 zones from the play they call penalties.

Teams are readying for a lockout...Laying off "non-essential " office workers already
