Colorado Avalanche -.5 -165
Okay so it doesn’t take a handicapping genius to select a buck sixty five favorite. But frankly there isn’t much of a card tonight to choose from and this game really is a solid play and worthy of laying this kind of juice with confidence. This game is a simple choice of one of the favorites to win the year’s Stanley Cup versus a team that has clearly been the worst team in the league for the last two months.
Colorado will try to stay within striking distance of Detroit and first place. They trail the Wings by three points for the all important home ice advantage.
After a little slump Colorado is starting to put it together and has lost only once in their last five, (3-1-1). As a road favorite the Avs are 15-6-4. Tonight they play at Glendale Arena where the Coyotes have strung together a pitiful record of 3-14-4. For them, home is not where the heart is. Actually the road isn’t much better as they have only one victory in their last twenty one, (1-17-3).
On the road, when Colorado is favored, they have averaged 3.44 goals per game. Phoenix as a dog at home have allowed 3.67. Both are near a goal less on the other side of the ledger, Colorado 2.36 GAA as a favorite and Phoenix 2.41 GPG as a dog.
Goalie Tommy Salo could get his first start for the Avs and the debuts of blue liner Ossi Vaananen and center Chris Gratton against their former mates will be added incentive for them to have a big night.
This game is cheap at -165 (Pinnacle) and the price will not last. Get it early.
NHL single unit plays………81-54-7.…..+ 27.47
Unit and a half plays………..13-4-1.…… + 12.87
