[h=1]NFL teasers deal Vegas sportsbooks a huge loss[/h]David PurdumESPN Staff Writer

Teasers did so much damage to Las Vegas sportsbooks this weekend that there were grumblings from beat-up bookmakers about eliminating the increasingly popular form of parlay bet.

A teaser is a form of a parlay wager with adjusted point spreads and totals. A bettor makes two or more selections and moves the point spread or over/under total, for example, six points. When final scores land within 12 points of the established point spread or total, teasers are trouble for the books. And that's exactly what happened over the weekend.

In the four divisional NFL playoff games, 15 of the possible 16 winning six-point teaser combinations hit (under on Seattle-Carolina was the exception). At sportsbook operator CG Technology, 88 percent of teaser bets placed on the four NFL divisional-round games cashed. It cost the book "mid-six figures," according to vice president Jason Simbal.
A Caesars sportsbook supervisor summed it up as "brutal."
"Payout, payout, payout on teasers," said Jeff Stoneback, assistant manager for MGM race and sports, about the run of teasers.
All eight teaser sides hit from the two Saturday games hit, capped by theArizona Cardinals' 26-20 overtime win over the Green Bay Packers. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers' last-second Hail Mary forced overtime, allowing the over on teasers to hit with the Cardinals' winning touchdown. The liability continued to build and turned the Pittsburgh Steelers-Denver Broncos game into a "make-a-break" decision for MGM. Denver ended up winning by seven, pushing some point-spread wagers, but cashing both sides of teaser bets and taking a chunk out of the books' bottom line.
The Cardinals' dramatic win was extra special to a bettor in Lake Tahoe. The William Hill sportsbook at Grand Lodge Casino accepted a $132,000 money-line bet on Arizona at -330 to beat the Packers straight-up, according to director of marketing Michael Grodsky. The bettor won $40,000 when Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald scored the winning touchdown in overtime on the Cardinals' first drive.

[h=2]Odds and ends[/h]- Respected poker pro Aaron Jones won $5 million Sunday, the largest single prize ever awarded in fantasy sports, when he came from behind to win DraftKings' World Fantasy Football Championship in Los Angeles. Jones (screenname: aejones), trailed renowned the DFS pro known as Condia by 49 points heading into the division round of the NFL playoffs. Jones rallied behind a big performance from Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Martavis Bryant. Condia faltered after Green Bay wide receiver Randall Cobb left Saturday's game against the Cardinals in the first quarter.
The total prize pool for the contest was $15 million.
- Notable Super Bowl 50 futures bets at William Hill:
$30,000 on the Broncos at 14-1, placed Aug. 18; would win $420,000.
$20,000 on Cardinals at 18-1, placed Oct. 6; would win $360,000.
$100,000 on Patriots at 7-2, placed July 2; would win $350,000.
$9,100 on Panthers at 4-1, placed Dec. 17; would win $36,400.

- Opening lines for AFC and NFC title games are available here
- The Westgate SuperBook will launch a mobile sports betting app Tuesday with a full menu of betting options. The Wynn race and sportsbook also announced last week that a mobile app was on the way, and MGM is working on one as well. William Hill, CG Technology, Boyd Gaming and the South Point sportsbook are among the books already offering mobile wagering, which is considered to be the biggest catalyst to Nevada's growing sports betting industry. The state's regulated sportsbooks have enjoyed record handle and record win in back-to-back years, according to gaming control statistics.

that probably means they get it back this week :)

where will the teaser action be? Obviously, the two dogs since teasing a 3 point favorite is generally not a wise move

but what do I know, I'm not really a teaser guy

I think there's 2 ways to look at teasers, especially 10 or more special teasers.

If you are on them and win, it feels great.

If you take action from someone who wins big off of it, it kind of pisses you off and want to tell him what a big pussy he is lol

Books treat it just like a loan.....have to let the squares win a couple times....

teasers were here good for the books in 2015....

im surprised to hear this as i didn''t think so many people played teasers that heavy.teasers usually are people who are afraid to bet a team outright to win.i play them in the NFL but id rather place most of my money on one team i like instead of hoping for two teams to win for me and having less money on it.

I think that a popular misconception is that teasers are a suckers bet. I find that completely invalid. When you are off by a few points usually in betting, teasers may just be the way to go. Obviously, dogs are generally better to tease since an upset can always occur. Football is easier to tease in my opinion than basketball since scoring is in integers so you can look for the key numbers. Obviously in basketball, teams don't care in general if they win by 1 or 25 just as long as they win. That can cause a lot of strange losses in the end, such as a team getting the ball back in the end and taking an uncontested 20 footer while everyone is shaking hands and basically walking off the court. In football, you know a TD is 6, they will probably make the extra point or can go for 2, or get a field goal or safety.
Teasers allow you to get key numbers with much extra cushion. Lets say a team is a 6 point dog, but you think they could win too. Doing a 8.5 point teaser allows them to win or lose by 2 TDs and you still win. Now, obviously you want at least 4 games in a teaser like this to give you even money, but if you find yourself losing close ones and have several good games to bet on, then i say its a solid type of wagering to look at. 4-6 8 point football teasers is what I generally find to be the most profitable. That would give you like 5 or 6 points in basketball if you like to mix and match sports, but again, teasers in basketball I find a little less profitable.

Thanks. I posted a lot on other sports forums in the past and would usually post some pretty detailed writeups. Since I just joined this one and saw a post about teasers, which is almost my favorite form of betting, I had to write a little something.

I use them a lot for hedging my future plays...Was heavy on Bama to win title.. set up quite a few with Clemson + 14 1/2 tied into weak positions in the NFL , and a contest position across the street.... I liked Bama enough to where I got greedy at PK and went the opposite way on the NFL postions.... worked out better then I could have imagined with late scores by Chiefs and Seahawks

Westgate finally launching their app is the best news I've heard. They are probably the best book in Nevada.

That actually is another good thing to mention. When you have only a a leg or two left on your teasers, you can hedge very nicely. Think about when you tease a favorite to basically a pickem... It allows you to take moneyline on the big dog then, which could potentially allow you to lock up profit regardless. I have done that soooo many times before.

Exactly. On Saturday, I teased the Wizards to +1' --- sure enough, with 3 seconds in the game, Boston's Jae Crowder scored a layup worth 2.6937475 points.

Celtics 119
Wizards 117

Damn the NBA!!!!!!! Damn them, and their fractional scoring system!

Basketball teasers have always been a joke because they don't give you enough points.

Not sure now but Pinnacle used to give you 1 more point on sides & 2 more points on totals with NBA teasers than most other books...
