Who do you think is the best baseball play-by-play announcer of all time? Go to the RX home page to take our latest poll, or talk about your favorites here in this thread!

The announcer does not have to be alive today. Also, why is he/she your favorite?

While I have a sentimental soft spot for Curt Gowdy, I don't think anyone can match Vin Scully for style and substance in the broadcast booth. Vin gets my vote.

agree Vin Scully is probably the best there ever was, but my personal fave will always be Bob Murphy. Was the Mets radio/TV guy for over 40 years. Always maintained a positive outlook despite plenty of awful Met teams.

Scully has always been my favorite, and along with the Laker's Chick Hearn..makes for a spoiled bunch of folks in LA..both are SoCal Smooth!

My favorite baseball announcer said this every time a batter took a called third strike; "He stood there like the house by the side of the road."

Any guesses? (Wil, you are not allowed to guess).

I never understood why people liked Vin Skully. He was always my least favorite. Plus the whole no commentary thing creeps me out.

He called the '86 series, how obnoxious was "behind the bag!" I dont see how any Boston fan could like this prick. I'm dissapointed Wil.

What about Dizzy Dean and his style on the Saturday--Game of the Week! I grew up with him and Pee Wee.

He used to say things like---"padner--he slud into third".

Nah---gotta love Scully and his style.

Harry Kalas of the Phils is also great, has a sort of Wolfman Jack of Baseball sound with his calls..enjoying the 8-1 Phils call to booton XM MiFi.

P.S. The Phils Are HOT and the BMs saw it coming, as they have been stout chalk of late, even making their lone struggling starter Padilla a small fav over a hot Vasquez.

The triple 1st place roadie where the Phils went 6-4 was abuy-sign going into their monster homestand..thus far they are making hay!

I listened to Ernie Harwell on the radio ever since I was a kid. There was nothing quite like him on the radio on a late Saturday night when the Tigers were out west. He was quite the character.

how do you go to to the home page?

seriously, i think vin scully. Even at his age, his calls are fantastic. its like he is doing broadway and everyone is doing a bad high school play.

Without question my favorite is the late Chuck Thompson (MLB HOF announcer)

Other's I have enjoyed through the years...Curt Gowdy, Al Michaels, Vin Scully and Jon Miller.
