Hey Guys,

Currently I am in a situation which I will be purchasing a new car. I am also going to be a father! First child so I don't know a lot about what to expect. My question is, should I get an SUV (jeep grand Cherokee limited) or a 4 door sedan (Acura TL)?

Thanks for any help!

It's a personal decision which to get. I can tell you my bro has a new Jeep Grand and the biggest hassle is the stroller won't fit longways in and it isn't the easiest for his wife to turn around so they're selling it already.

Price wise, if you can't get 13-17% off the sticker, walk out...

I have a Nissan X-terra and really enjoy it, not sure if that would be something you would be interested in.......probably more along the lines of the Pathfinder in the Nissan family of vehicles would be a fit for you.......

Nice. A lot on the road, but one of the last in line for me. Way overpriced and totally plastic feeling. Roomy though...

Different strokes for different folks my friend. Wife had a Acura TL (great car), but we sold 5 years ago when we had our 1st child. Ordered a GMC Acadia. It was a nice step up from a car for her. Had our 2nd child 2 years ago and had to trade it in for something bigger. Got a 2012 tahoe and I love it. The only better ride would be a suburban. My garage is like 4 inches too short.....When we built our house I oversized the garage then built storage closets on the back side....full of junk and cost me a suburban......lol.

Probably going to get the new tahoe once some of the rebates come out. That thing is plush as hell!

You'll get MUCH better mileage with a car over a SUV. That's a no Brainer there.

Not necessarily. There are SUVs out there that get 35MPG these days. The Mazda CX-5 is one of them, and it's a nice little ride.

You're right my friend. Hope you get the new Tahoe sooner than later.

But, with the 2 vehicles he has mentioned, you're right. Bro is avg about 17mpg tops in his jeep limited, whereas the TL should avg about 25MPG. Stated the mpg doesn't matter. I live in the city with the cheapest gas in the entire nation and it still matters to me. Lol

My wife and I just bought a GMC Acadia Denali. She is on her way to pick it up now. Certified with 20k miles, but spent 34,500 instead of 55,000 new.
We have two kids as well (4 and 7). She is moving up in size from a Ford Edge. I'm really hoping she likes it. First road trip today to VT.

My mom bought a 2103 Tahoe last year and I absolutely LOVE it. But overpriced for sure and roomy in the wrong places. We did not need the head or shoulder room because we are not big people. We needed the 3rd row for sure, and the captains seat 2nd row, but needed more storage out back (dog). The acadia's, traverse's, and enclave's offer that.

I would get the Jeep over the Acura (unless your wife has a family sized car, then get something like the Acura). I have had 2 Jeep Grand's in the past 12 years and love the way they ride and look, hate that they break down all the time. Maybe they are better now.

I think the Tahoe and the Suburbans up to 2014 are the best looking SUV's on the market. I don't like the new 2015's however look too boxey.

We recently upgraded to a large SUV (4 kids now) and drove the Lincoln Navigator L vs the Surburban and Yukon. For ride quality we easily picked the Navigator as the other 2 rode like a truck. Interior is really roomy but gas mileage does really suck.

Congrats and good luck!

I think luxury Minivan is best bang for your buck.

Can be pretty luxurious and you get value because of the stigma that goes with a minivan.
