No one is requiring US factories to lower wages. The auto companies came to Congress for a handout because of their inability to run a profitable company. Congress is giving them conditions by which they can receive that handout. It's up to the auto companies to either accept those conditions or to reject them and keep their wages the same. It is still their option, not a requirement.

exactly

if you don't want a lender to impose financial covenants, something frequently done by lenders, don't borrow money from such lender. Business sense 101.

I can't believe Senators want to give a company money without addressing the root causes as to why the company needs life support to begin with. I can't believe Senators want the American taxpayers to finance ONGOING LOSSES. Then again, some Senators are in the Union's pockets, they have no choice, politically speaking.

After all, this is the dawn of a new era

They are not trying to give the companies money....They are trying to force the collapse of the company so they can take over control of the Auto industry with the Govt as CEO and the Unions as Mgmt.....
Leave to stupid ignorant Democrats to think that after running into the ground EVERY program they have ever started they can now run buisnesses that provide workers everyting they need, pay beau coup taxes and stop global warming at the same time.....
Stu fucking pidity is their only motto.......
