Does it pay to buy the 1/2 point in NBA games? I had come to the conclusion that it did not pay to do so based on the fact that the odds of the hook coming in to play are low.

from a +9 to a +9.5 I'd say no and from a -9 to -8.5 I'd say no. But if you're going from a half to a whole number, I might say to take it just because I'd personally rather have less profit in exchange for better odds of winning...my $.02

I always play the hook when I cap a game and the numbers come out close. Because you don't pay juice on a win or a push. Never done it before this year and have won many of games do to the purchase. If you would have ask me last year I would say Hell No. But this year it has been very valuable to me. But I used a number system to cap my games. If you are just picking them out of the air or by trends you will die.

The thing is, in a sense, you do 'lose' a bit with a win. By putting up $120, you should really be winning $109.09 (assuming a -110 money line) instead of $100. The half point will not save you enough times to make it worth it. If it did, the books would not offer it. If you think results are hitting close to the posted lines, you might be better off pursuing middles.

Never buy points in the NBA...unless you want to give the house a bigger edge.
