OK, I got a serious question about Dosage index. Please, I know there are some serious experts on this forum, so here is my question:

I know just enough to call it the DI, and that is it.

I've been watching, reading up, trying to understand the 'distance' part of this complicated number/result for each horse.

I've come up with who I think is a good play for the BELMONT and I need a yay or nay (pun intended) if I've missed something here. So, I'll make this quick =

I think Circular Quay is the horse that can win the BELMONT. He made up ground in BOTH KD & Preakness and this distance appears to suit him.

Can someone / anyone (thanks in advance) put me on the right track here?

Is Circular Quay suited (dosage index-wise) for this race?

Thanks. Any input, info will be greatly appreciated.

In short, dosage as defined by Steve Roman is an absolute joke. For years, chef-de-race figures were changed ex post in order to have the Derby winners fit the traditional Derby profile. I think the most prominent of the changes came after Strike The Gold's 1991 Kentucky Derby win, but my memory could be off on that.

If you believe in dosage, check out Steve Roman's site at http://www.chef-de-race.com/main_menu.htm

Dosage indexing is not a reliable measure of a horses ability, as some tend to carry the dams strengths, while the index is more focused on the sire. So the sliding scale becomes vague, and not reliable. Also, with age, any given runner can begin to carry his speed further, as he builds in size, soundness, and mental confidence. If he changes however, his dosage index # stays the same.

In long races of 10 furlongs or more, class becomes VERY important. Remember, a cheaper horse can beat a classy horse going short sprints, but the longer they run, the more the class shows, and the edge goes to the sound/class, and away from the high speed.

Look at your form for the horses that have earned most of their money going long routes, for high purses.

I see Street Sense just withdrew from the Belmont. Good luck

Closers do not win the Belmont. That is a FACT.

Thanks to you all for your answers.

If you need any 'baseball' help, look me up on the tracker forum, user name Uncle Steve (that being said, any thoughts as to WHO can win the Belmont?)
