First of all, i would like to just clarify this isnt me i am about to talk about. i use SIA for three years now. but, i have a situation a friend of mine is in.

Can anyone give me advise. I have a friend who has an account with an online site, one that he uses a password, and the site manages all the betting, but the bookie takes the log each week of the plays, up or down, and they pay or he pays later that week and so on......he doesnt have to front any money, unless he is down after the week, or is up and gets paid. These limits were set very extreme, and he has had two really bad weeks and maxed them out.

I am wondering how normal this is. Also, the big thing, if the guy doesnt want to pay, what really could happen to him. any experiences with this? I am assuming this is somewhat illegal, but not really sure. I know that you pay what you lose etc...but i really want some feedback on here what people think about this. he has lost a lot of money and doesnt have it. what really could happen if he didnt pay, what should he expect from an "agent" who is a bookie that has a bunch of these passwords and gets people to bet on these sites and take the action?

thanks for the feeback in advance

I have never heard of this man. I want to make sure I understand what you are saying, basically his bookie is managing his money online? right? so if he's down as opposed to meeting in person it's all done online? that is insain for the bookie! what could he do? well he could put a serious ass whipping the guy but that's about all b/c that site would be as illegal as can be. well I should make sure you're in the US right? well anyway it all sounds fishy to me and I would never use an online individual as a bookie. just weird to me.

How well do you know your friend? Has he done this before? If he says "no", are you sure? Has anyone "guaranteed" this guy other than the agent?

Things have changed a bit since the days depicted in "Casino", but of course it depends how much your friend owes and what his plan for payment is. If he is straight, the book/agent just wants the money and they are usually ok with reasonable payment plans. If he owes 100K and earns 30K a year, he's obviously got a BIG problem, but still needs to be straight. The situation won't just go away, and whining that the agent shouldn't have given him huge limits...that argument won't get him anywhere.

My local bookie works this way. I use an on-line off-shore site that is for private members only. The local bookie gives you a password and a credit limit.

Just like any local bookie, you pay or collect on a weekly basis. The off-shore site is used by the local bookie as a record keeper.

Basically, the local bookie will try to collect and you must tell him that you cannot pay and then offer to make arrangments, like a payment plan. Or tell him that you can borrow half the money if he is willing to wipe out the entire amount.

One thing that will really piss off the local bookie is if you have more than one local bookie and continue to play with the other guy.

If you try not to pay at all, he will come after you. Just talk to the guy and work it out. It happens every day. A local bookie I know very well told me that he is very happy when a player is totally wiped out. It means he took him for everything the guy was worth and in most cases even more. He never gets angry about making a payment plan with a player.

Hope this helps.

thanks guys. Yes, i think basically how it works is a bookie rents usernames from real offshore accounts, and the offshore accounts get a kick back i would think to manage the accounts. Yes, i am in the US, and so is my friend. I think he will just have to tell the guy flat out, he doesnt have the money, and the guy will have to accept what he has at the time, and try to pay it off over time, or just have to eat it. I just want to make sure he doesnt get hurt or anything, wouldnt want him to screw with the wrong guy. I just dont see the guy as a threat, i just dont know the type of people that can arrange these accounts and such ...if they are under a bigger guy, and so on....so i guess we will just have to see.

thanks for the input.

Work out a plan & avoid the trouble!!! It's the honorable thing to do...

Fourleaf... First off, this is not unusual at all. I run an offshore site exactly as you depict for a percentage of each agents action. I make sure the lines are sharp and provide the agents with servers to handle their web traffic & 24 hour / 365 toll-free call in lines. Plus, we book all our stateside action out here in the islands where we are fully legal and licensed.

Specifically, this agent will be out of his pocket with about 30 % of your buddies loss to him to a company like mine. I don't want to hear a story from him... its that simple! I get the money everytime his x number of players loses x thousands of dollars. This way he does'nt get heat from the state or federal guys for answering the phones in country where it is ILLEGAL!

Dude... tell your friend to honor his debt and work out a payment plan. That is the honorable thing to do and he will feel much better about himself this way. A stiff is always a stiff... there is no honor in it. Besides, looking over your shoulder all the time is no way to live.

Just this sportsbook's humble opinion. Hope it helps.

Respectfully,
