I'm trying to talk myself out of the Marriott Courtyard & have been checking out some "local places" which I'd prefer to stay at vs. the corporate pig.

From what I've seen, there are a lot of nice villas & such to be found.

(Here comes the barrage of questions)

Any suggestions? Any experience with using www.orbitcostarica.com ?

Anyone familiar with http://www.orbitcostarica.com/villasdelrio.htm in Escazu?

Also, what's the story with the car rental required gov't insurance "scam"? Is this insurance really required?

Thanks! :toast:

I think I'm hooked on the Escazu area-for at least part of the time.

p.s. I'm working on making this a Sunday-Sunday or Wed-Wed trip now. Got a few spare vacation days since mother nature has put the ski season on hold for a few weeks.

you don't need any car rental insurance specially if you have a credit card that offers some protection when you decline the LDW/CDW (in Ireland I found out that it is mandatory and I think Italy is that way too)

that being said.......I think its a good idea to have some protection (or all of them) specially if you are going to drive a lot OR going to rent an expensive car, likelihood of going in a pothole or having other inconveniences is high

I would make the reservation online and mark what you want and don't want, the one thing that is going to happen and I tell you in advance so you know......is that you are going to have to sign a blank credit card voucher, this is because unlike in the US a tico company can't charge you without a signed voucher, when you return the car in one piece they return you the voucher so that you can rip it apart

Just off of Paseo Colon, ST. About 5 minutes from the Corabici. Very cool place. Think you will like it.

Thanks for all the info. Considering how little time I'm going to spend at the hotel, I may just go with something cheap(especially if I'm going to make a full week out of the trip).

Well versed on the Delrey. I've stayed at the Veneto in Panama, so I'm good & ready.

Steve is right, Out of Bounds is good spot, close to double the price, if u r staying a month at a time, it adds up.
