NC Central +8 over Iowa State

have watched a lot of ISU this year and their starting 5 are as talented as anybody, haven't watched a lick of NC Central, but...

looking at the Eagles schedule, they've won 20 in row and played some tourney teams earlier in the year.

at Cincy L 61-74
at NC St W 82-72
at Wichita St L 66-77
at Maryland 56-70

respectable scores all on the road. now you have a neutral site game riding a 20 game streak, couple that with...

betting public is on ISU at an 80% clip. think about that, for every 2 wagers on NC Central, Vegas is taking 8 on Iowa St. yet the line opened at 9 and has since dropped to 8. will be interesting to see what it does tmrw, but to me everything points to an NC Central cover. gonna sprinkle a little on the ML +315 too.

the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conf is generally regarded as one of the weaker conferences in Div 1, but their other tourney team (Hampton) just hung with Penn State in State College, and NC Central handily beat Hampton in their only game this year. obv Iowa St > Penn St, but tells me these teams can compete with the big boys.

Central's strength is their defense, bodes well in the tourney when a team can hang their hats on a stout D. limit opponents to 37% shooting (2nd in the country) and allow 58 pts per game (7th in the country).

a veteran club with three seniors guards and two juniors forwards in the starting lineup, with two upperclassmen coming off the bench.

maybe forum members from Tar Heel & Blue Devil country can chime in on them as well.

I will never forget Iowa State in 2001.........they were a #2 seed and some jabrone missed a wide open layup to go up 3 and the other team (Hampton?) came down and hit the game winner. Ruined every bracket. I think this team is way better coached though this year and I see them advancing a few rounds.

good memory Wolf, 15th seeded Hampton knocked off 2nd seeded Iowa State. actually works against NC Central imo, but then again that was 13 yrs ago. and I agree that Hoiberg is an excellent coach and Iowa St is poised to make a run after advancing to the 2nd round the last two years... scares me a little, just think this a tough first round draw for the Clones.
