Same thing I posted yesterday. And it continues. Without seeing Hornets yet, I think Eastern bottom 4 seeds are not playoff teams. Add to that Grizz and Nuggs are playoff newcomers and you have a lot of first round blowouts. No value dogs except fading Lakers and SadSac, I think. Makes for poor viewing experience. My eternal optimism says second round will be great and competitive once the bottom feeding pretenders are exposed then eliminated. Until then, keep that remote handy. Best Wsihes...OF

the lakers game would have been a blow out if they just blew the whistle. it may have been close, but no way was that an enjoyable game to watch.

0-5 in the entertainment dept. so far

I think it's the equivalent of what online casinos do. They let you win your first hand so you get the fever, but then you start your losing streak and since you remember that first win you keep on betting (and losing). My prediction: tight games with dogs covering in round 2 of these series.

I ahve bet on 3 games so far, but I have only watched one of them and that was the Lakers game last night when I took Houston. Hell I only watched that game from the 2nd half on. I am too excited about baseball this year

ted turner is a much smarter man than people give him credit for. he reduces the ammount of nba coverage rights when he sees the viewership decline.

Shouldn't be to suprising. The NBA has been declining for years in entertainment value. As far as the blowouts are concerned, not much can be done. There already is a salary cap so that isnt the issue. The biggest problem is that it's a game of skill more so then the other major sports and very little luck is involved. It's not a game of inches like MLB.

The best team is almost always going to win the series, especially first round top seeds. Thats why 8 seeds never win except a fluke like Denver or a really good team that fought injurys to squeeze into the playoffs healthy in which case they are a #1 or #2 seed in an 8th seed body, like the lakers of knicks or recent history.
In hockey, top seeds lose all the time in the playoffs cause it is a game of luck moreso then others. Lots of goals of wacky deflections and skates, etc. Team be be totally outplayed and lose by 3 , doesnt happen in NBA. The only time a team is outplayed yet wins is when the team had that much superior talent.
Also in NHL and MLB one position is 5x more important then any other. Starting pitcher and goalie. If those guys get hot they can singlehandedly overcome a poor team, too many examples to list in NHL.

NFL is similiar to NBA in that the best team usually wins. Biggest difference there is that its only one game and not 7 so anything can happen. Any team can have an off day. But 4 off days is rare.

even the denver fluke was a 5 game series though. . remember it well, dikembe mutombo on the ground with his fists in the air screaming. this 7 game series stuff stinks. stern is a moron. zone defense stinks and so does 7 game 1st round series.

starting the playoffs on saturday rather than thursday is another dumb idea. when they start on thursday there is already some drama going into the national TV games. now you get the 'oh well were down 12, well just play half assed and make changes for game 2' crap.

how does 'zone defense" suck.. almost every sport has zone defense. It's not zone defense that is the problem.

Agree with Funk on the zone. Kings do not play it, look at their d. Just enables you to guard an area, 2 or more players. Clogs the lane and forces teams to shoot low % j's. And if you can't shoot straight, as many NBA players cannot these days, you see a lot of scores in the 60's. It was implemented to increase teams need to fast break, and lift scoring, but like so many of my pal Stern's moves, it had the opposite effect. Of course this is not the only reason, but a contributing factor. Best Wishes...OF
