I played Det +1600 a couple weeks ago and would like some opinions. The west is so tough that it is hard to take a team to come thru it. LAL are over rated and not worth the price period. That leaves SA, Minn and SAC that can win the west. In the East I only see Det and Ind as possible victors. NJ if they suddenly got healthy might challge but I will stick to those 2. Miami is a team I would not want to draw in a matchup but their overachieving will come to an end before the NBA final. So by my math their is only 5 teams worthy of your futures money...Sac, SA, Minn, Ind, and Det. Who do you go with?

Mr Box the world is waiting to take your action. Your BR is in jeopardy if you play them on the futures. Listen and learn.

RandyRohm,

I put a lot of money on the Lakers back when they where still +275(before the trades) and I was also lucky to get the pacers to win the east at +700 earlier in the year.

Still I think Lakers at +160(sportsbook.com) is the best bet you can make.

I think for value the HEAT are a great opportunity at the price..Van Gundy may be coach of the year, although this year you can make a case for many others..

Riley mad a good choice in Stan because sometimes a different voice creates great change..And if the Heat advance the opportunity for quality hedging will be available..

Mr Box thanks for youe reply. Sorry I don't hold the LAL in the same high esteem. +160 is terrible odds for them to win the 2004 NBA championship. Period...

Hopefully the value lies in the Indiana Pacers.

Just to join in...

On Sunday, one of the ABC announcers (not sure which) stated "Karl Malone is without a doubt the Lakers team leader." A major slap in the face to guys who have been there. IMO the Lakers just aren't quite right. Then again when the lights come on all the talent is capable of stepping up - bigtime. Time will tell. I see San Antonio playing Detroit in the final. The Spurs play great team ball and they've been there. The Pistons have good team chemistry and attitude. Indiana and Sac will be heard from.

Standard disclaimer: I have been wrong before.

I heard Malone came out of tonight's game with injury. Anybody know how serious?

i disagree. if the lakers are +160 to win it all - to win the west they would be like +140 since the WNBA (a.k.a. - the (l)eastern conference) would be such a heavy dog in the finals. to me - lakers +160 to win it all is the only way to go if you want to bet them. as i said earlier - if the lakers are a dog in the finals - or anything -150 or less - i am doing like that brit guy did - selling everything i own and putting it on the lakers to win it all - since that would be free money.

as smart as you are fezzik - not even you can make a vaild argument for the WNBA champ to win the title this season.

i do look forward to the same thing that happens her every year - and people saying this is the year the (l)east wins it all - and then when they get killed in the finals - these people can't understand how they were dumb enough to think a WNBA team could win the NBA title.

SA due to Duncan, will always be the toughest matchup for LA, plus they have Bowen to harass Kobe enough to prevent him from dominating, with Ginobili & Parker's speed as tough matchups for LA's defenders.

Minny looks to have turned corner, and have enough cast around Garnett, yet to bet them to win three top-notch series, when they've yet to win one, is a large leap of faith.

_allas..there's no D in it!..yet they may run LA ragged in defeat..LA isn't going down to anyone, other than possibly SA or Sacto.

Sacto, their age and tough 7 gamer vs. LA in '02 says this may be their last run of current core group..and they will be die-hard this time(unlike '03).

Detroit with addition of Wallace has really elevated them over a slightly fading Indiana(mediocre last 35 gms), and NJ can't beat Detroit in a half-court war(they need garbage buckets to beat a good team..No Celts nor Sixers = no Finals for NJ).

SA or Sacto over Det in 6 or 7(NBA needs a Gm 7 this year..they're taking a bath in ratings..SA, Sacto, or LA will need 6 or 7 this yr to help Stern's bleeding.)

Wake me when it's over!

P.S. Miami over NO in easy form..short price, short work..layup!

Winky,

The whole thing is value. If you see value in the lakers by all means lay it down. Are you hoping to see the lakers in the finals and then hedge with the eastern team to create profit? Or would you just leave it you are that confident the lakers will win? Ok the east teams play in another comp we get your point. But to write them off is not wise. We know the recent record of the east. Thats not the point. VALUE is tho! Gl

Stern has something planned for all of you, i can guarantee it. lol he has already wagered and has his winning ticket he just needs to collect. Who is it? You tell me. The bleeding stops this year for Stern horseshoe. The NBA is back and the ratings will go through the roof when they see who plays in the finals! Game 7 easy, whatelse would it be lol!!!!!

Shiny, the line isn't out yet, but you can bet that Miami despite lesser record, and lacking the vets or experience of Hornets, will be favored slightly, due to beating them this year and their 17 of 21 close to season.

Miami over NO..Medium to Large Play..regardless of any price under 1.50 either way.

Playoffs are the only time I've watched NBA since '99 season..it's the only time they remotely D up.

I just now this minute saw on ESPN.com, a poll for "which East lower seed has the best chance to upset the higher?", and NO as a 5 seed over Miami the 4th was the leader in poll 50% of the vote(43K voted), which in fairness is the logical call(nobody is gonna pick vs Ind, Det, or NJ)..still, run with the Heat when it opens!
