This event was a cocktail party to introduce the players and randomly assign them to brackets for the first round, which will take place Saturday.

Friday centered around the bracket assignments, and it was a lot of fun to watch as these top players were all randomly assigned to each other. Celebrity James Woods had the misfortune of drawing two-time World Series Champion Johnny Chan, while L.A. Lakers owner Jerry Buss will be facing off against 2004 Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu. As one-sided as those matchups appear, there will be many, many more that seem evenly matched. You can expect an exciting weekend of action as play begins Saturday morning and continues through the weekend until Sunday night.

Here are the heads-up matches for Round 1, broken down into four "regions" called Spades, Hearts, Clubs, and Diamonds:

Spades:

Eli Elezra v. Chris Moneymaker

Tom McEvoy v. Mimi Tran

Cyndy Violette v. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson

Gus Hansen v. Curtis Bibb

Yosh Nakano v. Mike Sexton

Todd Brunson v. Erick Lindgren

Prahlad Friedman v. Sammy Farha

Phil Gordon v. Hasan Habib

Hearts:

Lyle Berman v. Freddy Deeb

David Grey v. Jennifer Harman

Bobby Baldwin v. Evelyn Ng

David Williams v. Carlos Mortensen

Greg "Fossilman" Raymer v. Kathy Liebert

David Pham v. Huck Seed

Dewey Tomko v. Paul Phillips

Phil Hellmuth v. Men "The Master" Nguyen

Clubs:

Barry Greenstein v. Lee Salem

Doyle Brunson v. Billy Baxter

John Juanda v. Chau Giang

Amir Vahedi v. John Myung

Nick Frangos v. T.J. Cloutier

Scotty Nguyen v. Mike Caro

John Hennigan v. Layne Flack

Henry Orenstien v. Chip Reese

Diamonds:

Josh Arieh v. Rene Angelil

Ted Forrest v. John Cernuto

Jerry Buss v. Daniel Negreanu

Howard Lederer v. Antonio Esfandiari

Phil Ivey v. David Sklansky

James Woods v. Johnny Chan Scott Fischman v. Annie Duke Dennis Wager v. Erik Seidel

i've been working on my game a little because i am going to start playing poker stars heads up tourneys on a daily basis .

20 bucks to enter.

128 guys. you have to win 3 matches to make money.

5 wins gets you $ 256
6 wins gets you $ 460
win the final match gets you $ 768

i like the idea of only having to beat 3 guys to get anything. 3 wins gets $ 51.00

they also have a 64 man tourney but entry is 50 bucks. 3 wins gets you 200 back.

Todd Brunson v. Erick Lindgren

I dont know all of the players in the field, but I can tell you this has to be as big of a mismatch as I have ever seen. Todd could catch every card and still have a almost impossible chance of winning.

Spoiler

Mods: you might want to change the headline to spoiler in case anyone is interested in waiting to see it on NBC.

Got back from GN where I was supporting my friend Evelyn.

Mimi Tran beat Tom McEvoy

Sammy Farha won easy

Mike Sexton won

Jesus, TJ, Johnny World, and a**hole Arieh advanced

and Evy schooled former World Champ Bobby Baldwin to advance to the next round.

she has a boyfriend, another poker player.

She is a sweetheart too, and her poker game is rapidly improving.

Facing the winner of David Williams vs. Carlos Mortensen next.

Phil Ivey goes down to Sklansky tonight.
Raymer lost to Liebert.

I really wish this was live or on a 15 minute delay, they could get PPV for this.

Chan got fvcked. He had Sklansky picked off 3 straight times. Sklansky gets lucky all 3 times and has the nerve to claim he earned it.
