My friends bookie scam

Before my friend moved to Australia he ran a scam on a local bookie that lasted almost a year. He regularry played with a big time local that catered to big square players (not sharps). The local was about seventy five years old and had very bad eyes. At some point my friend somehow got someone he knew to work for the bookie. Regardless of how he did my friend was able to get his figures reversed. So say he went 3-7 his inside contact would change it to 7-3 8-2 etc. About once every month or so they would let the losing week go. I remember him being all pissed off when the book started to personally hold his figures and his bets became legit for those weeks. When his friend resumed holding the figures they decided to set other friends up with the book and ran the same scam with them getting about 50 percent of the profits of each new player they got involved in the scam. At some point his inside guy began to get nervous and they broke up the scam after about a year of what he said was a major score.

So you hang out with crooks. Not really something to be proud of.

No, bookies are not crooks. They provide a service that we all want. And most of them are very honest.

I didn't say that they are people that you want to be friends with. I know what they do is illegal, but they are the ones taking the risk of being caught, so that people can have what they want and be able to bet. They pay you if you win, and expect payment if you lose. Don't stiff them, and you'll never have a problem. To say that bookies are crooks, I hardly think so. They may be crooks in a addition to being bookies, but it's none of our business if we want to be their customer. I think Hilo's buddy is lucky to be alive after fukking with them. But only because he fukked with them would there be a problem.

Illini,

You might be right that you deal with honest bookies but what about people that get over their heads and can't pay? What happens to them can be not only illegal but immoral.
