Dwight D. Eisenhower, mainly because he was President when I was born and this;
Now it is true that I believe this country is following a dangerous trend when it permits too great a degree of centralization of governmental functions. I oppose this--in some instances the fight is a rather desperate one. But to attain any success it is quite clear that the Federal government cannot avoid or escape responsibilities which the mass of the people firmly believe should be undertaken by it. The political processes of our country are such that if a rule of reason is not applied in this effort, we will lose everything--even to a possible and drastic change in the Constitution. This is what I mean by my constant insistence upon "moderation" in government. Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.
Taken from a letter President Eisenhower penned to his brother, Edgar Newton Eisenhower, on 8 November 1954:

The ideal form of governemnt is no government at all. Some call it chaos.
The bast way to describe our system is " the least bad form of governemnt" Ideally everyone would act for everyones best interest and there would be no need for government.

JR: I agree with you about Ike, this was a man who knew how to work together across the aisle and across the world! As was Truman before him, both very principled men. Ike just couldnt pick vps very well!

Personally, the best system would be rational anarchy, but like most ideas wouldn't work in practice.

Ike was a true Commander-in-Chief who would look at Bush and shake his head ...

I've often referred to Eisenhower as our last true leader, but how negligent and stupid is it to base admiration for a man on one line of one paragraph (especially one in which he is obviously completely wrong.)

Eisenhower was also a religious fruitbat. You can thank him for "under God" in the socialist pledge and for seeing to it that our national motto was changed from E pluribus unum to "In God we Trust."

Pobody's nerfect.

I don't remember saying I admired him. Christ pay attention, you can afford it.
It's your opinion that paragraph is completely wrong, we haven't seen the fallout from bushs attempts to derail Social Security, yet.
That along with his affection for the far religious right may be the undoing of the republicans.
How negligent and stupid is it for you to attack me when I didn't say I admired him. I have a very low opinion of most Republican Presidents, Ike just happens to be slightly above the rest.

I suppose I should have said in my lifetime.
I just thought the quote was poignant, but then I'm negligent and stupid, so what do I know?

JR: I think you are neither but i think its amusing how the Republicans have disowned their roots and do not want anything to do with Lincoln. Lincoln was at least a man of intelligence and compassion, something you will find very little of in todays Republicans. (Sorry, I dont mean to group you JR in with the righteous right)

You don't admire him, but he is your favourite Republicn president ("in your lifetime" since the 19th-century tyrant king Abraham Lincolm apparently rates high on your list [in all fairness it does for most other American brainwashees who believe the Lincoln myth.])

So again, you do not admire your "favourite Republican president?"

Yes your dimness, he is my favorite Republican president in the way getting poked in the eye with a finger is preferable to being poked with a sharp stick. Therefore the finger would be my favorite way of having an eye gouged out.
I'm working on a picture for you as soon as I figure out how to upload an etch-a-sketch image.

And I said I was enamored of Lincoln where? Loved his speeches though.
If you refuse to read my posts, then attribute statements to me, try and make me sound smarter, 'kay.

Phaedrus probably has the only copy of the journal left by Lincolns gay lover. In said journal the outline of a seriously disturbed and sinister figure appears. The Lincoln everyone knows and loves is in reality a devious plotter responsible for all the ills of the 19th century.
The rest of us just have the sugarcoated bios to rely on.

JR: Do you remember seeing " Young Mr. Lincoln" with Henry Fonda as Lincoln? If Abe did go the other way you really couldnt have blamed him. That Mary Todd was not much of a looker.
