ok i have noticed this about 2 months ago. once a week my computer will
shut down
i am not sure why this is happening

i leave my computer on 24/7

not sure if i have anything in my schedule or tasks that a computer will normally do

also when i stat-up again how would i elimate some programs ( lower right hand corner i will have an msn messenger come up , my volume control for the speakers will come up)

u might be having some internal errors...

see if this works...

go to:

Start > Control Panel > System > the Advanced tab > click the Settings button > uncheck "Automatically Restart"

I had the same issue when XP first came out

If you're not on a battery, it could be fluctuation in the line current (very common) or it could be your power supply flaking out(also common).

It could also be your operating system crapping it's shorts(also common). If this is the case, you should see some "unexpected shutdown" errors in the event log.

That's a good start

In reply to the above question. Enter start - run - (type) msconfig - look n the startup tab and uncheck what you don't want.

Hope this helps you.....................

You might have a trojan or quite possibly a fault in your memory.

Run windows updates.

To remove startup items from loading go to START-RUN Type in MSCONFIG. You will be able to check and uncheck the items you want to start when you turn your computer on.

If it's a laptop, specifically a Compaq, they have an automatic shutoff when internal temperatures get too high. I was running into a similar problem where it would unexpectedly shut down. Got a can of canned air, blew out the vents and got a Targus Cool Pad which houses 2 fans (and provides 4 additional USB ports) and I haven't had a problem since.

sounds like it's overheating. turn it off. unplug. open the case up and clean. not with a vacuum per say, but with a cloth that is not wet. or very very very lightly damp at the max. clean the fan vents, etc.

test to see if it's the temperature by leaving your case open and noticing if the same problem persists.

Compressed air is the easiest & safest way to clear the dust from your machine.

Makes quite a mess, but works like a charm!
