</TD></TR><TR><TD class=blacktext vAlign=top colSpan=2>WASHINGTON - Liberal powerhouse MoveOn has a message for the "professional election losers" who run the Democratic Party: "We bought it, we own it, we're going to take it back."

A scathing e-mail from the head of MoveOn's political action committee to the group's supporters on Thursday targets outgoing Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe as a tool of corporate donors who alienated both traditional and progressive Democrats.

"For years, the party has been led by elite Washington insiders who are closer to corporate lobbyists than they are to the Democratic base," said the e-mail from MoveOn PAC's Eli Pariser. "But we can't afford four more years of leadership by a consulting class of professional election losers."

Under McAuliffe's leadership, the message said, the party coddled the same corporate donors that fund Republicans to bring in money at the expense of vision and integrity.

"In the last year, grass-roots contributors like us gave more than $300 million to the Kerry campaign and the DNC, and proved that the party doesn't need corporate cash to be competitive," the message continued. "Now it's our party: we bought it, we own it, and we're going to take it back."

Pariser urged MoveOn supporters to help support a DNC chair with a bold vision to represent Democrats outside Washington. Democrats will vote at their February meeting in Washington on a successor to McAuliffe.

DNC spokesman Jano Cabrera declined to engage in a tit-for-tat with MoveOn, but praised McAuliffe's efforts.

"Call me crazy, but I think the fact that for the first time in party history we outraised the Republicans, and did so primarily through grass-roots fund raising is something to be proud of," Cabrera said.

Among those vying for the party chairmanship is former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, an early darling of MoveOn's cybernetwork of activists when he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination.

No comment - other than to say: "Go moveon.org - let's take control of the DNC and show them how to win an election!"

Hey Doc - you're the left wing insider here - not me!

I'm sure that you'd know the difference between lies and the truth!

I hope it's not lies - it would more or less guarantee continuing Republican control in Washington.

Doc -- blight's source is the Associated Press. They're generally pretty reputable.

The Dems lost because they tried to be like Republicans and abandoned their base. "Liberal" is not a dirty word, no matter what the Right says or how hard the far-left tries to hijack it. If you don't stand up for what you believe in, and hard, you will get crushed. Kerry shirked away from the word liberal, he was as guilty of corporatism as the Repubs, wore his religion on his sleeve, and he muffled the anti-war stance. If you listened hard enough, you could hear that he was still a liberal, but he must've taken his liberal base for granted, because he spent more time trying to prove how conservative he was than he did championing what Libs stand for.

The Dems shoulda stuck with Dean. That stupid warcry would've blown over eventually. He was the only one with convictions and the ability to sell them.

Doc- every post? That's not true! I ignore many of your more caustic and foolish posts.

We made peace until you started in on the soldiers - leave them alone and peace continues - start on them and.....

Way to learn from your mistakes, lefties. Nothing like having a Socialist Euro Arms Dealer calling in his note on your ass.

And I'm not so sure Dean would have been the answer to the left's prayers, XP. He ran an angry, youth-oriented, grass roots campaign. And guess what? He flamed out utterly. He ran out of money so early in the process that he had no choice but to fold tents and play the brave democrat for John Kerry. And guess what else? The guy never won a primary. Hell...he got absolutely waxed in Iowa (finishing third), then finished a not terribly compelling second in his must-win own backyard (New Hampshire). The only state he took? Vermont.

Kerry was a really bad candidate. He ran a poorly managed campaign that was owned by Karl Rove at almost every turn. You can say that Move On has the answer...but I'd argue that you're crying for change for change sake. And I'm thinking that change will make things substantially worse. The answer for the dems is to get a competent candidate who can field a capable team, and then take that message to America.

However, letting MoveOn.org run the DNC means never having to plan an inauguration. I'm all for it. Republicans rejoice...

JD: as an outsider looking in, it just seemed like the so-called party of Liberals forgot it was supposed to be, well, liberal. The Repubs played to their base perfectly, the Dems completely took theirs for granted.

Though I should add that liberalism in Canada and liberalism in the US don't seem to be the same thing. I'll shut up now.
