Micahel Moore, whose controversial awarding-winning attack on the Bush regime, Fahrenheit 9/11, opens in Britain on 9 July, has revealed that he is to turn his camera on healthcare in the United States.
The director and author will attempt to save as many lives as he can by simply intervening with his camera crew during the course of 90 minutes of filming. He hopes to embarrass health insurance companies and hospitals into continuing to care for patients with no cover - highlighting holes in the American system.

It will be a deliberate reversal of Moore's decision to stay largely off screen in Fahrenheit 9/11 , the documentary in which he shows illicitly obtained footage of Bush off guard in the White House and of disillusioned soldiers in Iraq.

He believes the intrusion of a hand-held camera will be more effective than conventional protests against insurance groups and chain hospitals that 'abuse and beat down' poorer patients. 'I thought, "What if we constructed a film where we could see how many lives we could save in 90 minutes, moving as fast as we can, and our only weapon is the camera"?'

Moore said he had the idea when making his TV show, The Awful Truth, shown in Britain on Channel 4. 'We had this guy who was going to die because his HMO [insurers] wouldn't pay for his transplant so we went with him and conducted a funeral rehearsal,' said Moore. 'The HMO was ashamed and paid for the transplant and he lives to this day.'

News that the US health service is Moore's new target will be a relief to two groups which had been touted as likely to be next in his sights. It was rumoured Tony Blair's government was Moore's latest subject, but at the Cannes Film Festival - where he won the coveted Palme d'Or - Moore indicated he wanted to look at Disney. He had fallen foul of the entertainment and leisure empire when they pulled out of the distribution of Fahrenheit 9/11 at the last minute.

Also, just out of curiosity, how many seperate Moore threads are you planning on starting? Basic etiquette would suggest that a dozen pieces about the exact same thing would probably be not only more polite but better organised if they were in a single thread.

I have no interest in censoring or beating down Michael Moore -- he's like Jesus really; despite the points on which he and I disagree what really gets under my skin is his airhead fúcking fans.

I do not understand why we are encouraging the Americans to imporve their healthcare.
Do we really want these disgusting pigs to be healthy? Perhaps we could encourage more American whores to have abortions.

The Tony Blair one would be a flop.

We all know how dodgy and corrupt politicians are in the UK, I couldn't see anything paticularly enlightening coming out of it for UK audiences.

Big US corporations and their corruption are a better target, healthcare, poverty, guns, foreign policy, Israel.

Theres plenty to work with.

The lad has a job for life.(unless someone arranges a fatal automobile accident)

Insurance companies suck... He wouldnt be able to edit down how much they suck in order to fit it into a 2 day movie ,nevermind 2 hours. Insurance companies are the scum of the earth.

The whole "keep costs down argument" to me is nonsense though. How the hell do people think these companies do research?

43 million people with out health insurance is another liberal line of shit.

Some people don't want it some people can afford it but don't buy it. (I know a lot of guys like that, make 80-100k a year self emploeyd and don't buy it.

Do you know anyone that has been refused treatment from an accident or anything...no because it dosen't happen.

If you make 80 to 100K per year, maybe you don't need it.

I agree, insurance companies do "suck", but I don't know what I would do without mine.

Patriot is right. Few are refused treatment from an accident or "anything," whatever anything might be.

But many thousands die and will die by not receiving adequate preventative care or medical tests, examinations, and treatment and even the most rudimentary of medical care. The costs for this debacle are eventually picked up by Patriot, myself and other insured Americans.

Being in the age group that I am in, I know more than a few people who work, not for a $100,000 but $15,000 or $20,000 and are not offered insurance. I see employers cutting back work hours under 32 so as not to have to provide medical benefits. I see people with serious pre-existing conditions being laughed at by insurance underwriters even when they may be able to afford some type of coverage. Such is the case for the person closest to me.

Of course an incredibly high percentage of 20 somethings lose their parents' coverage but can't get or afford their own. That is OK most young people are indistructable as we know. Little children well...some fall through the cracks, but most of those are Black or white trash anyway. From a Darwinian sense that's just too damn bad isn't it?

I see my own private policy rising by almost $300 a month each year. Fortunately I can almost afford it until Medicare unless we raise that age requirement to 70 or so.

Health insurance for all is not another liberal line of shit. What is shit comes out of the mouths of those who oppose it.

How will that work? "Insurance for all" basically means screw the insurance comapnies and taxpayers, just like health care for all" in general means screw everybody and everything up for the sake of a false sense of security.

I don't know how old you are, but if you aren't already well on the way to retirement age I wouldn't bank on Medicare even being available to you when you get there, let alone at a later age or reduced coverage.
