A couple days ago I mentioned the class of the Vancouver fans during their National Anthem.

After watching the Montreal Canadian fans piss on America’s National Anthem for two straight games all I feel is rage and for the first time in my life I hope I lose a bet. As I have money riding on these wannabe French pussies wearing red and blue. Ribeiro epitomizes this franchise and sackless crowd.

I didn't see that Vic but does make me feel a little better about the bad beat tonight. That is an absolute disgrace and those people should be ashamed of themselves.

There is also the ugly Canadian as there is the ugly American. Unfortunately every country has them and competition brings out the worse in people. Sad stuff.

Good post by stef. A shame, but no different here in the US in certain cities if Canada was in the same situation. By the way that is two nights in a row that a team is up 2 goals and just stops playing offensivly and ends up in OT.It seem like you are almost putting more pressure on yourself when the puck is always in your end. That passive play probably cost the Canadians any real chance of moving on.

When you say the Montreal Canadian fans pissed on America’s National Anthem, what do you mean? Did they cheer disrespectfully, boo throughout? I'm not trying to add fuel, I'm honestly curious.

I may have been a bit over emotional in my wording but yes they just booed through out. (both games). My point was boo the players...call their wives names....all that is fair game but when you disrespect a nation's anthem you are not disrespecting a team you are disrespecting a nation and it's people.

Stef... you of course are correct.. there is good and bad in all. But I have never heard, (in all my years)ANY U.S. based audience boo the Canadian National Anthem and I pray that the Boston fans show some class and don't lower themselves to the tastelessness of the Montreal fans. Also I have never heard Toronto fans or any other Canadian city do what Montreal did last night and Sunday night. And with all the hatred that Toronto and the Bruins had during the Orr years, (I'll always remember Quinn knocking Orr into the next century when Orr didn't keep his head up),if it didn't happen then it wont ever.

By the way Pete...don't give them so much credit. They aren't French pussies....they are wannabe french pussies.

The montreal fans who booed during the National Anthem are 'classless' to say the lease...& as a Canadian who is 50% French Canadian It is embarassing......

A few points that should be remembered however is that it is often a minority of Fans that can sound like a majority...May I suggest that about 500 Fans can be quite loud especially when the vast majority of them are being quiet to respect the National Anthem...Those 500 can begin to sound like an entire stadium...

Would also like to point out that there was likely much more to the booing than simply 'hockey'. Although I FIRMLY beleive it is inapropriate for sports to be used as a political platform I am of the beleif that the booing was primarely a statement towards US foreign policy...more specifically what is going on in IRAQ, than the hockey game itself. I am not condoning this behaviour, nor do I beleive it is the right forum to express these messages, however, I can tell you that Quebeckers (like all French) were vehemently opposed to the war in IRAQ & thus the US is not popular there right now, or in many other countries for that matter. Sometimes people who feel they do not have a voice can feel frustrated....

Again I am not making excuses for the HABS fans, & in fact I have read that they have booed in the past aswell so perhaps I am way off on this....but I gotta beleive this had more to do with it than, just 'hockey'

Thanks Savant for your perspective on this.

You probably are right that this was more than just about hockey. However as a lifelong Bruins fan I can tell you from experience that it is not the first time for this behavior. Perhaps they were just voicing their displeasure over our involvement in Vietnam when they did it in the seventies. Maybe it was Carter’s botched rescue of our hostages in Iran in the eighties that led to them voicing their displeasure. Maybe they didn’t like Regan’s tax plan in the nineties. Who knows maybe it was Nancy.

You know it could be my bad. Maybe they weren’t saying boo at all. Maybe they were saying LOUUUUU.

But whether it was Lou or Boo I don’t remember them doing it to the Rangers, Blackhawks, or the Red Wings when they went to the forum. And I doubt they would if those teams played at the Bell Center this year.

The Canadian franchise have gone from heroes and stars like Rocket, Gump, Beliveau, and Dryden and been reduced to snakes like Mike Ribeiro and clowns like Alex Kovalev.

Tell you what. The Montreal fans can boo or Louuuuu all they want in the month of April. But it will be at a baseball game because there are no more games left to be played at the Bell Center.

BOOOO-HOOOOO

(please take no offense Savant to my earlier comments. I was out of line and just venting as a proud American)
