Any truth to this rumor? He has been an outstanding coordinator in NFL for a long time, would make the SEC even more interesting given the athletes that he would have to work with in Knoxville. Lane asked everyone to be patient with the naming of his staff out of respect for people that may still be under contract. Would have to think that he is tired of working for that jackass Gruden. Anyone close to UT know anything? Would be fun to see what he would come up with to defend the spread. Former NFL defensive guys seem to tear it up in college (Carroll, Saban).

Lane begged off the idea when he was interviewed on ESPN. He said he didn't know if it was possible. I didn't look encouraging to me, but what do I know?

I don't think he'll get Monte, but he might get Ed Orgeron as the DC which would be a nice coup. Orgeron is a great recruiter and solid Dline guy.

If everything falls into place Monte will be the next D-Cord at Tennessee. Great article Tuesday in the Tennessean about Monte coming to Tennessee.

I used to think that about Lane but he earned my respect during his gig with the Raiders. Players actually responded to him and he didn't do as bad as I thought he would.
He may have been a brat early on, I know he was one of the reasons why NOrm Chow left SC as Chow hated Kiffin, but I think he matured during his gig with the Raiders.
THat being said, as of now, Kiffin is a boy amongst men. He's coming into a conference with 4 coaches who have won an NC in SPurrier, Saban, Meyer, and Miles. He's a great recruiter but I don't know if he'll be able to bring Tenneessee back to the level that Tenneessee was during the mid 90's early 2000's. BUt he'll have Tenneessee back to being a top 20 program IMO.
HOh and expect vidal Hazleton who just transferred from USC to end up at Tenneessee.

I have been told by someone very close to the Tenn program Monte to Tenn is a done deal but won't be formally announced until the Buc's finish their playoff run. Orgeron is likely going to Tenn after the Saints finish their season if he is not offered the DC job at LSU. He said he was told there would be one if not two or more NFL assistants joining him as well.

Just what I have been told

Of course it's a done deal. It makes too much sense not to be.

Monte obviously does not want to be a head coach anywhere or he would be by now. He is alrady known as the best d-coordinator in the NFL and may be the richest one. He has nothing left to accomplish in the NFL. Finishing his career with his son has to be too good to pass up.

Heard he'd have to take a million dollar pay cut to still be paid a million $$$ and be the highest paid DC in college football.

Tenn is willing to pay him but it's up to Monte..

Again, just what I was told but Boyd will not be going to Tenn even though the original scholarship offer would be honored. He was told he wouldn't be a good fit for the system Kiffin plans.

I take all the news coming out of Tenn at this time with some healthy skepticism as Kiffin has only been there 72 hrs.
