| I'm recommending a play on the Raptors plus the points on Monday night. Both teams are coming off of Sunday wins and I expect both to be fine for tonight's contest. But Toronto, at 9-2 SU in their last 11, have been "money" on the road. The Raptors are on a 4-0 SU/ATS run on the Eastern Conference road since January 24, and they're 12-2 ATS in their last 14 road games within the conference going back to November. The Raptors won in Brooklyn in January, flexing their muscle on the glass and winning the game 104-103 despite the Nets' making 48% of their shots, including 11-of-24 3-pointers. Toronto owns strong numbers from the deep perimeter on the offensive end and Brooklyn still struggles "getting out" on the defensive end. I expect that mismatch to go a long way in determining tonight's result. The Nets may also get caught looking ahead a little bit with one eye on Miami coming up on Wednesday night. The Raptors are on a 21-7 ATS run on the road, overall, and they're 17-5 ATS on the road against teams with a winning home record. | Today's Free Pick will be on the Vancouver Canucks over the NY Islanders. You have two teams that started the season with such high hopes and neither team is where they expected to be. On paper and on the ice Vancouver is by far the better team. The Islanders have lost Taveres for the season and just traded away Vanek for nothing. They pretty much have packed it in for the season and GM Garth Snow is on his way out the door. Vancouver on the other hand got rid of #1 Goalie Roberto Luongo to Florida and never did get a chance to move Ryan Kessler. They also have injury woes with Daniel Sedin being out with no return date. Looking at the numbers Vancouver has a much more powerful offense then New York but that isnt saying much with both teams averaging less then 2.5 goals a game. NY has an abysmal goaltending situation giving up over 3.3 goals a game. The Canucks have taking the last 5 of 7 from the Isles and NY is 1-4 in their last 5 in Vancouver. | This is a 1* Bonus Play on the Vancouver Canucks. The Vancouver Canucks squeaked out a massive win on Saturday and while it is still a long road to the playoffs for the team the win did a lot to the mental psyche and I think it makes it two in row with a very beatable opponent in the Islanders visiting. The Islanders are not a very good squad right now with injuries and deadline moves killing the team’s chances of really competing on a nightly basis. The Islanders blew two third period leads already on back to back nights coming into this game against two of the western conferences’ worst teams in Edmonton and Calgary and should find it just as hard here against a desperate Canucks team. "We needed to play,” Vancouver coach John Tortorella said after Saturday's 2-1 home win over Calgary. "We have to scratch, claw and grind and find points anyway possible." Vancouver has at least been beating most of the teams it should be this season with a 19-12 record versus teams with a losing record. | 1* Bonus Play Colorado Avalanche. I feel the Avs are worth the price here. Colorado is coming off a 2-1 home loss to the Blues on Saturday and will be eager to take out its frustrations on Winnipeg, a team that it’s already clobbered with a 2-0-1 mark. The Jets are crashing and burning, Winnipeg has won just seven out of its last 23 games. Most recently it lost three-straight at home including getting hammered 5-3 by Ottawa on Saturday. At this point, the hole seems pretty deep for Winnipeg as it would have to pass Vancouver, Phoenix and Dallas to earn the final playoff bid in the West. Note that Winnipeg is just 9-16 (-6 units) following a non-conference game. And note that Colorado is 8-4 (+3.8 units) after scoring one goal or less in its previous contest. With a date vs. second-place Chicago in front of the home town crowd on Wednesday, the Avs have even more incentive to earn a victory over a team that they’re “supposed” to beat.
