KEY STAT: Sampdoria forward Manolo Gabbiadini has scored in each of the last four games

EXPERT VERDICT: Sampdoria ended Juventus's 100 per cent home record by drawing 1-1 on their last road trip and can earn another share of the spoils when taking on Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. Lazio have won five of their last six home games but may struggle to contain Samp, who have lost just once this season.

KEY STAT: Liverpool have won three of their last four away matches

EXPERT VERDICT: They may be some changes to Liverpool's side but Brendan Rodgers appreciates the value of a strong showing in the cup competitions and it was notable that he deployed most of his big guns for the recent League Cup quarter-final victory at Bournemouth. Wimbledon will be positive but should be outclassed.

RECOMMENDATION: Liverpool to win 3-1

KEY STAT: Celtic have won their last nine SPL matches against Kilmarnock

EXPERT VERDICT: Successive wins have lifted Kilmarnock into a comfortable mid-table position but they are likely to taste defeat at home to title-chasing Celtic. One point from two games is a dire return for the Bhoys but they have had over a week to prepare for the trip to Rugby Park and should be firing on all cylinders.

RECOMMENDATION: Celtic-Celtic double result

KEY STAT: Udinese have not kept a clean sheet in their last nine fixtures

EXPERT VERDICT: Roma have not allowed disappointing Champions League performances to spill over into Serie A and can keep their title challenge on track by winning in Udine. Rudi Garcia's second-placed side have triumphed in each of their last two away league games and can pile on the misery for Udinese, who have won just one of their last eight league matches.

RECOMMENDATION: Roma

KEY STAT: Milan have recorded three 2-0 wins in their last six home games

EXPERT VERDICT: Successive home wins have kept Milan in the hunt for a top-three finish and the Rossoneri should be too strong for Sassuolo at the San Siro. Filippo Inzaghi's side have kept three clean sheets in the last four games and should achieve another against the visitors who have gone three games without a win.

RECOMMENDATION: Milan to win 2-0

KEY STAT: Everton have lost six of their last seven matches

EXPERT VERDICT: The knives are out for Roberto Martinez and the Everton manager could be under even more pressure following this match. The Toffees are short of confidence and goals and West Ham have a decent chance to bounce back from a difficult festive period by winning at Goodison Park.

RECOMMENDATION: West Ham

NHL Grand Salami - January

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

NHL Preview: Sharks (20-14) at Jets (20-12)

Date: January 05, 2015 8:00 PM EDT

While scoring has been an issue lately, the San Jose Sharks were one of the league's stingiest teams in December.

Coming off one of their worst defensive showings in five seasons, the Sharks face another challenge with Monday night's visit to the Winnipeg Jets, one of the NHL's highest-scoring teams in the past month.

San Jose (20-14-5) allowed an average of 2.00 goals last month and 1.91 in its previous 11 games before a 7-2 drubbing by St. Louis on Saturday. The Blues scored six unanswered goals while handing the Sharks their fourth loss in five contests.

The seven goals allowed were the most for San Jose since an 8-2 loss in Dallas on March 16, 2010.

"We weren't even remotely close to being in that game. ... I don't know. I don't have the answer. Right now, I don't anyhow. We'll try to get to it if we can," coach Todd McLellan said. "There's no excuse for us, not one."

San Jose has totaled nine goals since a 3-2 win over St. Louis on Dec. 20 that capped a 9-1-0 stretch and played its latest game without one of its leading scorers. Joe Thornton's streak of 319 consecutive appearances ended because of an upper-body injury suffered in a 3-0 win in Anaheim on Wednesday.

"It's pretty frustrating," forward Logan Couture said. "If you can't win missing one player you're not going to go too far. We didn't play at an NHL level. We didn't even compete."

Thornton, who is tied for the team lead with 33 points, was put on the injured list Sunday and will miss at least two games.

The Jets (20-12-7) have performed well despite the absence of their top four defensemen and forward Evander Kane, winning 10 of their last 17. However, they needed a 5-1 rout of visiting Toronto on Saturday to end a season-worst three-game home losing streak and avoid a third consecutive overall defeat.

"It was a big game for us, you never really want to lose three in a row," said forward T.J. Galiardi, who scored his first goal in 22 games. "We weren't happy with the way things were going there, but we showed tonight we can bounce right back."

Bryan Little extended his point streak to six games - one shy of matching a career high - with a goal and two assists. He has three goals and six assists during his run, aiding a team that's averaged 3.54 goals in 13 games since Dec. 4.

Little has a team-best seven goals in that stretch, and Andrew Ladd has matched his 15 points with six goals and nine assists.

Sharks backup goaltender Alex Stalock kept all the Jets from scoring in the only other matchup this season, a 3-0 win in San Jose on Oct. 11. Stalock has shutouts in each of his two career games against Winnipeg while No. 1 netminder Antti Niemi is 2-2-1 with a 3.13 goals-against average in five lifetime meetings.

The Jets' Michael Hutchinson, owner of a league-best 1.81 GAA, could make his first start against the Sharks.

San Jose has split its two games in Winnipeg since that franchise relocated from Atlanta after the 2010-11 season and lost 5-4 in a shootout in the most recent visit Nov. 10, 2013.

NBA Preview: Thunder (17-17) at Warriors (26-5)

Date: January 05, 2015 10:30 PM EDT

No team in the NBA has had more success at home this season than the Golden State Warriors, a reality the Oklahoma City Thunder have already experienced firsthand.

Looking to continue their remarkable offensive output of late, the Warriors try for a third win in as many tries against the Thunder on Monday night.

After dropping consecutive games to the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, the Warriors (26-5) have returned to Oakland to win three straight. They are a league-best 13-1 at home, most recently knocking off Toronto 126-105 on Friday to make it 11 straight at Oracle Arena.

The Warriors have topped the 120-point mark in three of their last four at home, where they're averaging 113.4 points.

"Our confidence is hot no matter who we play," Stephen Curry said following Friday's victory. "Even the last two games, handling (Minnesota and Philadelphia), doing the things we're supposed to do and winning the games we're supposed to win, it sends the same message. We're serious about winning and we're serious about getting better every night."

Curry hit 10 of 18 shots for 32 points against Toronto, and has shot 50 percent or better from the field in each of Golden State's last three wins. He's paced an offense that has shot 41.7 percent from 3-point range and outscored its three opponents by an average of 24.7 points since the Christmas loss to the Clippers.

Marreese Speights had 23 off the bench against the 76ers and 26 against the Raptors, and he was even better in the Warriors' first meeting with Oklahoma City (17-17). Speights had a season-high 28 in that one, helping Golden State overcome 11-for-36 shooting from Curry and Klay Thompson in a 91-86 road win Nov. 23.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook weren't healthy for that meeting, but they were back in the lineup Dec. 18 at Oracle. Durant had 30 points on 10-of-13 shooting in fewer than 19 minutes before leaving with a sprained ankle - that injury cost him six additional games - and Golden State rallied for a 114-109 victory behind Curry's 34 points and nine assists.

Since returning, Durant has been exceptional. He scored 44 in Wednesday's victory over Phoenix and followed with 34 points in a 109-102 win Friday against Washington as the Thunder improved to 9-2 with Durant in the lineup.

'That's what he does,' Westbrook said. 'Nobody's surprised. He's not surprising himself. He prepared himself well to get back to where he is, and back to where he left off.'

Durant has picked up the slack while Westbrook has shot just 32.2 percent over his last three games, but the Thunder were left pointing to their defensive effort at the end against the Wizards. After giving up at least 29 in all four regulation periods against the Suns and 57 in the first half against Washington, Oklahoma City picked it up in the final 12 minutes Friday.

"We held them to 20 points scored in the fourth," Durant told the Thunder's official website. "That's what we want to do. That's an ideal quarter for us as far as defense is concerned, then we made plays down the stretch offensively."

The last time Durant made it through a 48-minute game against Golden State, it was his offense that was the story. He had a career-high 54 points in a 127-121 home win Jan. 17 with Westbrook out.

NBA roundup: Blatt gets vote of confidence
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin insisted Sunday that first-year head coach David Blatt's future is safe and his job security was never in question.

"This narrative of our coaching situation is truly ridiculous," Griffin told reporters before the Dallas Mavericks' 109-90 victory over the Cavaliers. "It's a non-story, it's a non-narrative. Coach Blatt is our coach, he's going to remain our coach. Do not write that as a vote of confidence. He never needed one. It was never a question. So don't write it that way."

Sources told ESPN.com last week that there was a growing level of worry within the Cavs organization about Blatt and his ability to reach the team. However, Griffin rejected the notion that Blatt's job was ever in jeopardy.

"No change is being made, period," Griffin said.

--Sacramento Kings rookie forward Eric Moreland underwent surgery Saturday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The surgery was performed by Dr. Arthur Ting in Fremont, Calif. Moreland is expected to start rehabilitation immediately and return for NBA Summer League play.

The 6-foot-10 forward totaled two points and one rebound in two minutes off the bench in three games with the Kings this season.

--The Golden State Warriors recalled center Ognjen Kuzmic from the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBA Development League.

The 7-foot Kuzmic recorded six points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block Saturday night in Santa Cruz's 98-83 victory over the Canton Charge.

Warriors open as 3-point faves over Thunder
Andrew Avery

Lines have started to hit the board for Monday's NBA action and that includes the day's marquee game. The Golden State Warriors host the Oklahoma City Thunder and have opened as 3-point home favorites for the matchup.

The Warriors have won the previous two meetings with the Thunder this season, but are 1-1 against the spread, failing to cover as 8-point favorites as 91-86 winners on their own floor back on Nov. 23.

Game of the Day: Thunder at Warriors

Oklahoma City Thunder at Golden State Warriors (-3, 217.5)

The last time Kevin Durant faced the Golden State Warriors he set an NBA record with 30 points in just 19 minutes before going down with an ankle injury that robbed him of six games. Durant will get a chance to finish what he started the last time when the Oklahoma City Thunder visit the Warriors on Monday. The Thunder have won back-to-back games behind Durant and are trying to move above .500 for the first time this season.

Durant was hurt just before the half at Golden State on Dec. 18 and Stephen Curry took over the game in his absence, finishing with 34 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and four steals as the Warriors squeezed out a 114-109 win. Golden State is on fire over the last three games and is coming off a 126-105 win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday. “When you’re a good team, like we are, there are certain games that stand out, and (Friday) was one of them,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters. “You want to go against the best, and you want to see how you match up. … We seem to play our best in these situations.”

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, NBATV, FSN Oklahoma (Oklahoma City), CSN Bay Area (Golden State)

LINE HISTORY: Oddsmakers opened the Warriors as 3-point faves and the total at 217.5.

POWER RANKINGS: Thunder (-9.5) + Warriors (-15) + home court (-3.0) = Warriors -8.5

INJURY REPORT: Warriors - C Andrew Bogut (Out indefinitely, knee), C Festus Ezeli (Questionable, ankle).

WHAT BOOKS SAY: "With Durant back in the fold, everyone is lining up to back the Thunder. I’m a little surprised that a vast majority of our wagers have been on OKC. The Warriors have undoubtedly missed Bogut, but this is still a team in the same echelon as the Thunder and they don’t really need a defensive presence inside for this matchup. Maybe the bettors are thinking a bit of revenge factor since KD injured his ankle in the last meeting. Golden State has value if this drops to -3." John Lester.

ABOUT THE THUNDER (17-17 SU, 16-16-2 ATS, 13-21 O/U): Durant is 25-of-41 from the field in two games since returning to the lineup, including 10-of-18 from 3-point range while averaging 39 points and nine rebounds. “That’s what he does,” Russell Westbrook told reporters of Durant. “Nobody is surprised. He’s not surprised in himself. He’s prepared himself to get back to where he is and back to where he left off.” The Thunder are 9-2 with Durant in the lineup and will get a clearer picture of where they stand as they embark on a stretch of 10 of the next 13 on the road.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (26-5 SU, 20-11 ATS, 14-17 O/U): Curry and Klay Thompson have been outstanding most of the season but Golden State is at the top of the Western Conference thanks to the contributions of players like Marreese Speights and Draymond Green. Green is on the shortlist for the Most Improved Player award and is coming off his first career triple-double. “I don’t know if he’s going to make the All-Star team, but he would have my vote,” Kerr told reporters of Green. “He’s just been brilliant, and he represents kind of who we are as a team — the versatility, the scrapping, the toughness.”

TRENDS:

* Over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings.
* Underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
* Thunder are 1-6 ATS in their last seven vs. Western Conference.
* Under is 5-1 in Warriors last six vs. NBA Northwest.

CONSENSUS: 72 percent of bettors are backing Golden State.

NCAAB Mid-Major Money: Big profits from NCAAB small conferences
By DOC'S SPORTS

Some of the best betting value in college basketball is hiding beyond the power conferences. As the season really starts to heat up, Doc’s Sports takes a look at the little programs that could help you make big cash.

Team to watch: Davidson Wildcats (9-2 SU, 7-1 ATS)

Upcoming: vs. Richmond on Saturday, at VCU on Wednesday

The offense currently on display at Davidson College is undoubtedly making former star and current Western Conference leading all-star vote-getter Stephen Curry proud. Davidson is second in the entire nation at 86.3 points per game. It is also second in the land with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.74 to 1.

A tough test is likely to await Saturday’s opponent, Richmond. The Wildcats are 6-0 (3-0 ATS) at home this season and 12-0 (7-2 ATS) in their last 12 at Belk Arena. This will be their first Atlantic-10 game after making a jump up in stature (albeit still widely considered a mid-major) from the Southern Conference, so the home crowd should be especially raucous.

Davidson is 9-2 overall and 7-1 ATS this season. Richmond is a horrendous 1-9 ATS. Wednesday’s schedule pits the Wildcats against VCU, which is a mediocre 5-7 ATS.

Team to beware: Colorado State Rams (14-0 SU, 3-8-1 ATS)

Upcoming: at New Mexico on Saturday, vs. Wyoming on Wednesday

The football team—despite its recent bowl loss—is not the only club that has been strutting around Colorado State’s campus with a stellar record. On the hardwood, the Rams have begun the 2014-15 campaign 14-0.

But don’t be fooled by the flawless record. CSU is just 3-8-1 ATS, including 0-3 ATS in its last three. Slow starts are a big reason why the Rams are struggling to blow out opponents. They trailed New Mexico State 12-4 last Saturday and never led until the 1:21 mark of the first half before winning 58-57 in overtime. Colorado State faced a five-point halftime deficit against Boise State on Wednesday only to prevail 71-65.

Tiel Daniels, a 6’5’’, 230-pound forward, is questionable for Saturday’s game at New Mexico due to a calf injury. Daniels (5.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg) has missed Iona’s last two games. He poured in 20 points in an 85-84 win over Denver on Dec. 19.

Total team: Iona Gaels (8-5 SU, 5-1 O/U)

Upcoming: at Siena on Sunday, vs. Quinnipiac on Tuesday

Head coach Tim Cluess is not clueless when it comes to coaching basketball, especially on the offensive end of the floor. Iona (8-5, 4-7 ATS) is seventh in the nation in scoring at 84.9 points per game, registers at 14th in assists with 17.5 per outing, and its shooting percentage of 48.2 is 31st best.

A big reason for Iona’s scoring binge is A.J. English III. The junior guard is averaging 22.5 points and has contributed double-figures in 12 of 13 contests this season. He has reached or surpassed the 30-point mark three times.

Iona, however, must shore up its defense. The Gaels are giving up 77.7 points per game, meaning they are inferior to 343 other teams. Cluess said his squad’s “mental capacity at time was lacking” when players wrongfully helped off of Massachusetts’ guard Trey Davis during Iona’s 87-82 loss on Tuesday.

The over is 5-1 in games involving Iona this season.

Top 25 game roundup: Stanford tops Huskies in OT
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford guard Chasson Randle scored 24 points, including a layup with 2.2 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, and the Cardinal beat No. 21 Washington 68-60 Sunday night at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (10-3, 2-0 Pac-12) never trailed in the overtime, as guard Anthony Brown, who finished with 16 points, hit an outside shot with 4:10 left in the extra period to put the Cardinal ahead 58-56. A 3-pointer by forward Rosco Allen increased Stanford's lead to five points with 2:40 remaining.

The Huskies (11-3, 0-2) did not make a field goal in the overtime, and they suffered their third straight loss.

Cardinal center Stefan Nastic had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Shawn Kemp Jr. led Washington with 19 points.

Arizona 73, Arizona State 49

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona forwards Stanley Johnson, Brandon Ashley and first-time starter Rondae Hollis Jefferson scored 13 points apiece, and the No. 8 Wildcats rolled past Arizona State in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

Hollis-Jefferson, a sophomore who started in place of freshman Johnson, had eight rebounds, and backup center Dusan Ristic added nine points as the Wildcats (13-1) rebounded from their first loss of the season.

Guard Gerry Blakes led the Sun Devils (8-6) with nine points, and guard Roosevelt Scott and forward Shaquielle McKissic had eight apiece. The Sun Devils shot only 32.6 percent from the field and committed a season-high 22 turnovers against the Wildcats' aggressive man-to-man defense.

Louisville 85, Wake Forest 76

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Forward Montrezl Harrell scored 20 of his 25 points in the first half, but the fifth-ranked Cardinals did all they could to win their Atlantic Coast Conference debut, defeating the Demon Deacons at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

Guard Chris Jones scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half for the Cardinals (13-1), including a couple of clutch jumpers after Louisville's lead was in jeopardy. He tallied 14 points in the last 13 minutes. Louisville guard Terry Rozier added 18 points before fouling out in the final minute.

Forward Devin Thomas poured in a career-best 31 points for Wake Forest, which had a three-game losing streak snapped. Thomas, a junior, had notched his best offensive output by reaching the 26-point mark with more than 10 minutes to play. Guards Codi Miller-McIntyre and Mitchell Wilbekin tacked on 14 points apiece for Wake Forest (8-7, 0-2), which was denied a victory in the first ACC home game under coach Danny Manning.

Wichita State 70, Illinois State 62

WICHITA, Kan. -- The No. 16 Shockers survived a challenge from the Redbirds but earned the win at Koch Arena.

Guard Ron Baker led Wichita State with 15 points. Forward Darius Carter added 14 for the Shockers, who shot 57 percent from the field in the second half, 52 percent overall.

Guard Daishon Knight led Illinois State with 24 points. The Redbirds out-rebounded Wichita State 32-27 and outscored the Shockers 15-3 on second-chance points, but Illinois State made just 36.5 percent of its shots from the floor.

Wisconsin 81, Northwestern 58

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Forwards Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker each scored 16 points as the No. 4 Badgers breezed to a Big Ten victory over the Wildcats at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Kaminsky also had 10 rebounds and six assists, forward Duje Dukan had 14 points while forward Nigel Hayes added 10 for Wisconsin, which suffered its lone loss to then-No. 4 Duke on Dec. 3.

Guard Tre Demps had a game-high 17 points while guard Bryant McIntosh added 10 for the Wildcats.

No. 13 Kansas 76, UNLV 61

LAWRENCE, Kansas -- Sophomore point guard Frank Mason collected 18 points, seven steals and four assists as the Jayhawks rallied from a halftime deficit to trip UNLV at Allen Fieldhouse.

UNLV (9-5) led 33-29 at halftime, but lost the advantage when Kansas got off to a 9-2 start in the second half. The Rebels were led by senior point guard Cody Doolin and sophomore forward Christian Wood with 12 points apiece. Wood also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Kansas forward Perry Ellis had 16 points and nine rebounds.

No. 10 Utah 71, UCLA 39

SALT LAKE CITY -- Guard Delon Wright scored 11 points, collected seven rebounds, had five assists and four steals to lead a balanced offensive attack for Utah in a dominant win over UCLA at Jon M. Hunstman Center.

Forward Jordan Loveridge added 10 points and five rebounds while center Jakob Poeltl chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds for the Utes (12-2, 2-0 Pac-12) who beat the Bruins in Salt Lake City for the second straight season.

Forward Tony Parker scored 12 points to lead UCLA, who lost its fifth straight game. The Bruins (8-7, 0-2 Pac-12) trailed from start to finish. Guard Bryce Alford, the Bruins' leading scorer, was 0 for 10 from the field.

No. 23 Northern Iowa 67, Loyola (Ill.) 58

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Jeremy Morgan scored a career-high 18 points and Northern Iowa got back in the win column after opening the New Year with a loss at Evansville.

The Panthers (12-2) snapped Loyola's seven-game winning streak by building a 17-point lead but again had to sweat a scoring drought in the second half before pulling away from the Ramblers (11-3). Northern Iowa's offense had only six field goals in the second half Thursday in a 52-49 loss to the Aces.

San Jose Sharks vs. Winnipeg Jets
1* Bonus Play Jets.

I think this is the very definition of “great line value.” From a situational/motivational stand point, this is a very strong play in my opinion. The Sharks are coming off a humiliating 7-2 setback at the hands of the Blues on Saturday, San Jose’s fourth loss in its last five games. Also note, the Sharks come to town without the services of one of their leading scorers as Joe Thornton was injured in the setback to San Jose and he’ll miss at least two games. Winnipeg on the other hand comes in optimistic, it’s won ten of its last 17 despite playing without its top four defensemen. Winnipeg also comes in with plenty of momentum after ending a three-game slide at home with a resounding 5-1 destruction of Toronto on Saturday: “It was a big game for us, you never really want to lose three in a row," assessed Jets forward T.J. Galiardi afterwards. "We weren't happy with the way things were going there, but we showed tonight we can bounce right back." Note that San Jose starting goaltender Antti Niemi is a pedestrian 2-2-1 with a 3.13 GAA in five lifetime meetings vs. Winnipeg, while the Jets’ Michael Hutchinson has the league’s best GAA at 1.81 currently. And finally, take note that this is a revenge game for the home side after Winnipeg fell 3-0 in San Jose back on October 11th. A ton of situational and motivational factors collide with a very reasonable line, in my opinion the JETS are definitely worth the price of admission in this spot.

Jim Feist's Comp Pick for Monday, January 5, 2015:

Take: (712) NEW ORLEANS PELICANS

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Monday, January 5, 2015 is in the NBA scheduled contest between the Washington Wizards and New Orleans Pelicans. Washington brings a 22-11 S/U record and 8-7 road mark into tonight contest at New Orleans. This is the third game in four nights for the Wizards, so fatigue could be an issue here. The Wizards have lost three straight games, all tough contests, to San Antonio, Oklahoma City and Dallas. Washington is just 2-6-1 ATS in its last nine road games. The Pelicans are 17-16 S/U on the season, but a very nice 11-4 S/U at home, including a 7-2 ATS mark in their last nine games. The Pelicans have also covered five straight and are 11-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall. This is the second meeting this year between these clubs with Washington winning back on November 29th at home, 83-80 as a four-point favorite. I like the Pelicans here, they play much better at home and the Wizards could be a bit beat up after a tough three game stretch. Your Bonus Play is on the New Orleans Pelicans.
