MLB's New Security Measures Make Fans LESS Safe

So I was waiting in line to get into Opening Day when the Phils faced the Bosox. MLB now has metal detectors to create the illusion of security at the ball game. What this really does is nothing but make fans late for the game, and forms a huge pack of fans at the entrance gate to the stadium. This creates a more target rich environment for a terrorist than say, Section 217. More people would be maimed and murdered at the front entrance to the stadium by an explosion than would be sitting in their seats. Anyway, that's what I was thinking. But it's even worse than that:
Baseball’s new metal detectors won’t keep you safe. They’ll just make you miss a few innings.

Security theater meets America's pastime.

Scott.....I didn't click on the article but I think it's odd because I was sitting in section 217 on opening day at the phillies. I got there at 1pm for a 3pm game. The metal detectors didn't look like they caused any delays

by by the way....217 is a hall of fame section and a great seat in that ballpark.

That's kinda weird. I was passing through section 217 and some guy yelled, "Move it, Lardass," and I knocked him out!

I was gambling until 1:30 that day so it was my fault we were late. Got to the gate around 2:45. It was a nightmare. And as I and the article can support, completely unnecessary. We were still shuffling in line when Pedroia homered.

Lol. I was way early so I saw no delays. My seats are in 220 but we were able to exchange for 4 in 217. A newborn was hit with a foul ball right near us. Not good. Wish I had known you were there.

Vast majority of violence at sporting events is fueled by alcohol. Unless this measure increases drinking, doubtful there is any chance it will decrease safety in any way

Tom we are only speaking in terms of if, not when, or even of likelihood. IF a terrorist wanted to blow himself up or set up an explosive device MLB is gathering fans for him to do it in a place where people were not bunched together last Season. And all to create an illusion of protection.
That said the fights in the upper deck at the old Connie Mack fueled by the excessive consumption of Schaeffer and Ortliebs were legendary :)
