NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball is looking into Barry Bonds' relationships and activities, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

Citing anonymous baseball sources, the newspaper reported in its Sunday editions that baseball security officials believe Bonds might be at risk of conviction over allegations of tax fraud.

The San Francisco Giants outfielder, who has been at the center of baseball's steroid's scandal, has yet to play this season as he recovers from knee surgeries.

The most recent Bonds controversy involves him using his own doctors and trainers to treat his injured right knee. The 40-year-old slugger has had three surgeries on the knee since Jan. 31, the last coming Monday as doctors tried to clean out an infection.

Bonds' surgeon, Dr. Albert Ting, has been reprimanded twice by the California state medical board and is on probation for "unprofessional conduct," according to the Arizona Republic.

The Daily News reported baseball was not happy to hear that another associate of Bonds has had trouble with the law.

Baseball first became concerned about Bonds when law enforcement agents raided the home of his personal trainer and longtime friend Greg Anderson in September 2003 as part of the investigation of an alleged steroids distribution ring involving BALCO founder Victor Conte.

Bonds gave grand jury testimony in the case, and according to reports in the San Francisco Chronicle, said he used a clear substance and a cream given to him by Anderson, who was indicted in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative case. Bonds said he didn't know if they were steroids.

The Daily News reported that MLB officials aren't sure where their investigation will lead or what action they would take if they find Bonds has violated baseball's rules.

Bonds has 703 career home runs, 11 behind Babe Ruth and 52 from tying Hank Aaron's career record.

Go back to sleep for you are obviously lacking mental capacity this morning. He doesn't deserve the homerun record and I hope he retires.

Lacking mental capacity?? Are you slow or something? The guy crushed single season HR record AND the single season WALK record. All this, while pitching has changed so much that you face 4 different pitchers in a given night -- instead of a gassed out guy going the distance every night and throwing meatballs to fata*s Ruth.

The bottom line is that most that hate Barry do so because he's black ...

I do not drink Johnny. I've learned two things from my extended stay at TheRX -- degenerate gambling and alcoholism are not the answer sir. You need to look no further than EverFresh to see how worthless the two can make one become ...

ridiculous.

1) his records are all tainted. as are mcgwire's and sosa's.
2) people hate barry because he is probably the most arrogant, rude, smug s.o.b. that we have to see on tv everyday. on top of that, he lies about his involvement in steriod use and brings race into every single issue...most of the times it is unwarranted. i can't stand barry bonds and it has nothing to do with the fact that he is black. i love harold reynolds on baseball tonight...he is the only black guy on the show and he is the best by far, imo.

barry's taxs problems are likely legit the way that the giants organization and mlb are reacting.

he is not a good role model for the game of baseball.

is he talented? of course he is. but, we do not know how good he was because he cheated to enhance his performance. how many of his homeruns should have been flyouts? 10%? 25%?

we will never know.

i say goodbye and good riddance.

i think i figured out what the tax problem is...because they can't directly tax steroids, the state of california taxes by increases in annual hat size. they have calculated that bonds owes over $11 million for the tax years 1987 - 2004.

Babe Ruth was also a superb pitcher until he went into the outfield fulltime. What was Barry's pitching numbers? I thought so.

Basketball has 5 players and one guy can have the ball every play if desired.
Baseball has 9 guys rotating in the batting order.

Last I checked Blue there no IBB's in the NBA, but I could be wrong ;)

Barry Bonds has always been a great ball player, even years back when he played with the Pirates when he was SMALL, he just couldnt play in the postseason, he was a pure dog.... Bonds was always a great outfielder and also an excellent base runner. you dont see too many players these days that the opposing team walks you with nobody on base and 1st and 2nd they walk you to load the bases. I have to give credit where credit is due, Bonds is a great player.

with the pirates, he was a guy who could steal 25-40 bags a year and hit you 25 homers as well. his batting average was ok...i believe around .270. he did walk enough to have a on base % that approached .400. he was a decent left fielder as well but always had a pus-arm. and, as you said, he always choked in the playoffs.

it wasn't until he went to san fran and met the balco people that his numbers went off the chart. i'd say, without roids, bonds was andre dawson without an arm.

I love sports and I want to root for the guy...

But guess what..?

He is an ass! He always has been, and always will be!

He grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth and had the world by the balls...and still does!

And instead of being the role model that he should be...he is an ass!

An ass who cheats!

He deserves nothing...no respect...no records...no praise.

He is just a plain ass!
