Ok i admit, i am being lazy here but i definately have this team pegged as one to keep an eye out for this year. Ok i know they lost to Maine last year under the new coach Sylvester Croom, but they also laid some what of an ass whooping on a demoralized florida team (regardless, of that, the gators were still a formidable credible foe) Is the entire offensive line coming back? What about that QB Omar Conner, will he perharps be a good dark horse next year? (reminds me so much of micheal bishop. I dont know if its the system Croom is trying to install at MSU that gives him this look ) Regarding the scrambling type game enforced with the strong play of a possible break out running back in Norwood, do you think they could make some noise in the SEC which has at times had trouble with this kind of play or is just not used to it?

What gives folks please let us know what you think....(I am mostly interested in the opinion of MSU fan boys or other cappers who are within the region. Please dont bother with stale news from spring football magazines realeased a month ago...)

So whats it gonna be bulldogs, are you for real or are you jerking us off!!!!

Miss. Stank is about 2 years away from making noise in the SEC, but I think that the day will come when that happens.

This year:

MURRAY ST W

@ Auburn L

@ Tulane W

GEORGIA L

LSU L

@ Florida L

HOUSTON W

@ Kentucky W

ALABAMA L

@ Arkansas (LR) L

OLE MISS W

5-6 giving them the benefit of the doubt vs Kentucky and Ole Miss. Probably more realistic to say that they will split those two.

No way that they beat Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, or Arkansas.

State has had 27 players leave the program since last year that could be playing this year. Their "O" line is terrible, defense marginable at best, good RB in Norwood, no QBs or receivers to speak of and an OK special teams. This team we do good to win 4 games this year and for the foreseeable future. Their recruiting was decent this year, but right now, they are getting killed for this upcoming class. I think State is in the crapper for a LONG time.

I feel MSU has a legitimate shot at 4 Ws this season. More than that would mean they defeated every team in or below their class this season. Highly unlikely.

MSU's LB's and DB's are very small, as are most of their wide receivers. They haven't won on the road since Oct 2002. Their depth is a joke.

I'd be surpised if they won more than 3 games in '05.

State is going to see some very tough times this year. They have absolutely NO depth, so you should hang back until the second half of the season and bet against them in every game.

"play the tape billy, play the fucking tape..."

"who let the dogs out, wooof, woof, woof"

Starkghanistan is the worst place on earth. I can't believe that the piece of shit school had a post dedicated to it.

I went to a game there a few years ago...first place I EVER showed up at and decided that it would be much better not to tailgate, just get the W and get the fuck out.

I won't be playing against Miss. St. much this year...Croom is a good coach and QB Conner and RB Norwood can keep them hanging around...

Sorry Pags ,but Conner can't get out of his own way. He is terrible! Norwood and one Freshman DB is all this team really has.

They beat Florida ly when they were horrible so anything is possible. LSU will have talent but under transition with Coach Miles, Florida maybe same thing, Auburn lost many starters, nothing special about Alabama, and Arkansas tough at home. I predict they win 1 or 2 of these games but lose one they are supposed to win so 4 or 5 wins seems about right.

Croom has established very good discipline w/ this team....but that will not help overcome the depth problem and lack of talent. I'm looking for UF to beat the hell out of them.

As usual i am left stumped. This is why i always say its good to wait for at least 3 weeks into the season before you start laying down real dough on any teams.

The auburn game might be a good one to take the Dogs. Auburn will be breaking in a new QB and their running game of old is gone. If the bull dogs defense has some improvement from last year then they might suprise auburn with a few lucky interceptions...Tuberville is one guy who has been known to go into games poorly prepared.

I see the bulldogs as a good midseason team to fade due to their lack of depth and the kind of schedule they will have to slog through meeting, defensive power house back to back. Now onto the next team!!!!

Thanks all for responding!

the thing is that this team will be getting a ton of points each week, and Croom's smart enough to hand off to Norwood 35 times a game, slowing the game down...which means if your laying big wood, especially on the road, you could be in trouble against these guys...

Redpimp, you are wise to look for value before the public is onto it, but it's almost a crap shoot at this point IMO.

Pags11 has a great point about the points, though. Based on their past few horrid seasons, they will be getting a lot of points. Home dogs CLEANED HOUSE early last season. I plan to look at MSU as a home dog, but I try to NEVER take bad teams on the road, points or no. Good luck! :103631605

State is hoping that two incoming true freshman are good enough to be the starting OTs. Last year's are gone. DEs will tee off on these guys, whoever is there. WRs are among weakest in D-1. Connor is a decent QB and Norwood an outstanding RB.

RB Norwood and MLB Quinton Culberson are two best players on the team.
Defense might be surprisingly good, with potentially strong front 7. Secondary is the weak link, with true freshman Peagues perhaps the best of the bunch.

Maybe 4 wins. If you want to back these guys, look for an advantageous sandwich situation. Pick your spots, there won't be many.

The team I think may surprises in the SEC is Alabama. Really like the way they played last year under Shula. Team seemed to have a fire and enthusiasm that has been lacking in year's past. The defense was number 2 in the nation and they flew to the ball and were very physical. They have a pretty favorable schedule too getting Florida, Tennessee, LSU all at home. If they can keep Broyle healthy all season, they could take the SEC West.
