Eric Lauer (8-3, 3.59 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) will take the bump for the Brewers while the Cardinals will send the recently acquired Jordan Montgomery (4-3, 3.57 ERA, 1.08 WHIP) to the hill where he will try to build on an excellent debut for his new team in which he went five full innings, allowing just two hits, in a 1-0 shutout of his former team from the Bronx.
These teams are 6-6 against each other this season and battling for NL Central supremacy with the Brewers just a game out of the top spot. I like the visitors in this one because although Montgomery had a sparkling debut, he came to St. Louis off of a pair of subpar performances.
Conversely, Eric Lauer dazzled in his first August start, allowing just one run over seven innings of work in a 5-1 win over the Reds. Before that, he registered a 2.96 ERA in July with only one rough start during that span. Let’s grab the juice and cash a ticket with the Brew Crew.
