it is just a mess over here with the large population adding to the traffic, waiting in markets etc. it seems like more than half of them are from the military. the best thing to do would have been for them to set up on other less populated islands instead of oahu.

the worst part has been dealing with the marine mentality. i was trying to help and set up a charity golf contest on the base golf course and checked in at the security post. they were so arrogant and nasty not even telling me where i should go or who i should call. when i asked for the phone number all they did was point to a board with a bunch of phone numbers and not say one word. needless to say i will not be setting up a charity hole in one contest for them.

finally the only trouble we have at the dog park everyday are from two military guys that seem to think their pit bulls can do whatever they want to any other dog. is this a typical military mentality and the kind of guys that go on to become angry power hungry cops?

joint,

is that why so many of them are always drunk and getting in fights? my friend is a cop and he says the majority of the calls he gets are related to the military in one way or another. a lot of domestic abuse. however the ones i deal with that work part time at costco are nice enough evan gave my kid a free slice.

Two priceless quotes From Hilo...

"I think the insurgency is doing quite well."
-during Iraqi election

"the military has not done a damn thing for me..."
- this thread
not to mention your constant communist-sympathizing...Hilo i now truly beleive you are a 13 yr old just trying to say outrageous stuff to get a rise out of people..no right-thinking person, regardless of political affiliation, could really think this way

Yeah, I am sure that was the reason why the people who volunteered during WWII after the Japs bombed your state signed up...for the paycheck.
Not qualified to do much else??? Can you fly an F-18 or operate a nuclear sub or for that much could you repair the damn engines on a F-18 or handle nukes on a sub!

By the way Hilo Boy I am a former Marine. I spent most of my time in infantry units at Camp Lejeune, NC but was deployed to various places in the US and abroad. I also did gate duty with an M.P. unit near the end of my time in. Some Marines, or should I say some people in general do go on power trips... but usually (in the military) it is with other lower ranking military.
I treated civilians great because I knew they could call the base general and complain, and for the fact that I treat most people very nice until they get me a legit reason not too. I DID however chew out young PFC's who would try to get a driving pass onto the base when they were not supposed to be driving yet because they were attending a training school and were not stationed there yet and were also under orders not to drive.
I have to tell ya, in the wake of 9/11 and all of the terrorism threats, if I were working a gate, I may seem like an a**hole too. They don't have time to look up a phone number for every civilian visitor. They are probably worried about being blown up by a bomber. Did you take the initiative to look up the number on the board they showed you??? I tell you how to fix your problem with the golf tourney. Call a point of contact for the tourney...a Marine with some rank at least a Gunnery Sgt on the enlisted side and maybe a Capt or Major on the officer side.(Plenty of officers like to play golf) Get their name. When you go to the gate tell the MP's "My name is Hilo Boy and I am here to set up a charity golf tournament. I was told to contact (insert high ranking Marine) if I had any problems getting access to the base." Better yet, try to find out who the C.O. of the MP unit is and call him and tell him what you are doing. You drop his name and they will practically escort you on base if I had to guess...hell they might even tell the detail at the gate to expect you. Be resourceful Hilo Boy!
Those military boys along with tourists are the engine of your economy. They get paid regularly and spend their money in your state. Don't let a few a**holes spoil your whole image of the military.
