A pair of 19-year-old redshirt freshmen receivers, Terry Love and Irving Campbell, were charged with possessing a dangerous chemical compound. The two men were stopped by police as they were leaving the scene of the first explosion. A second bomb exploded shortly after, but a third bomb never went off as the campus police bomb squad quickly detonated it.

According to campus police, the two men said that they planted the bombs as a prank before being released on $500 bond.

No one was hurt, but if convicted on the misdemeanor, they could each face up to 90 days in jail and a $100 fine.

Love has hauled in 19 balls this season for 208 yards and a touchdown, while Campbell is still looking for his first catch of the year. The school does not plan on taking any immediate disciplinary action against the players and will wait and see how the legal process plays out.

MSU Tradition

"The Works" (toilet bowl cleaner) + Aluminum Foil + 1 empty 2 liter bottle = 1 hell of an explosion.

Has been done on campus for years.

In todays world it's a friggin "terror threat" i guess.

put several pieces of foil into the bottle with plenty of cleanser. put the cap back on, shake it up and wait. The more foil, the faster and louder the reaction.

just makes alot of noise, nothing else.

if put in trash cans, can scare the hell out of people because the reaction takes 4-10 min depending on the dose.

I was at the frat house one day, back in my college days, and a couple of guys had made one of those things. They took it out back and threw it way out into the bayou. The frat next door had a black lab and that damn dog swam all the way out and bit into that thing.

I can still hear the sound of that dog yelping his ass off.

Drano Bomb!!

This is how it is done:

1. Cover the bottom of an empty AND DRY plastic 2 liter bottle with Drano or Red Devil Lye.
2. Add aluminum foil - small pieces for a faster reaction (more surface area).
3. Add water, screw on the cap on throw.

It is very important to know that the less amount of water that you add, the faster the reaction will go!!

In the above example, add about 6-8 ounces of water and you only have about 8 - 10 second before it explodes. It's a good idea to have someone add the water and the thrower screw the cap on, shake it once, and throw. It is extremely loud - kind of cool also.

The more water that is used, the slower the reaction. However, if too much water is used, the reacton will never build enough pressure to explode the bottle. This can be a problem since the bottle will have a tremendous amount of pressue in it, but has to be pierced to relieve the pressure.

By the way, this reaction is vert exothermic (HOT!!)

Also, when the bomb explodes, sodium hydoxide goes everyhere and can blind you, burn you, and eat the paint off cars (known from experience).

Never Ever Ever try this with a glass bottle!!!!

The plastic bottle has room to expand before it explodes. It actually can get to 2-3 times it normal size before it goes - kind of neat to see.

I tried this in a glass bottle when I was in college and threw it out my second floor dorm window about 1 second before it exploded. Glass shards were everywhere - luckily no one was hurt.

This is really a derivation of the HABER process for making ammonia. The HABER process utilizes hydrogen gas and nitrogen gas at vert high temperatures and pressures to make ammonia. But using an aluminum catalyst (the foil) one can make ammonia gas at lower temperatures and pressure.

The Drano is essentially sodium hydroxide (a strong base). When mixed with the aluminum and water, it forms hydrogen gas and reacts with the nitrogen in the air to form ammonia gas. This gas builds up in the plastic bottle until the pressure gets too high and it explodes.

Be careful doing this!! Make sure the 2 liter plastic bottle is dry before adding the Drano. Any moisture in the bottle will lead to a lot of heat and possibly injury.

Add ingredients in order - Drano, foil, water. Once the water is added, you only have a few seconds to screw the cap on and throw it.

Do not throw this bomb near any person, animal, or object that you or someone else values. It is dangerous!! (but really fun to hear).
