As totally unbelieveable and insane as this sounds, according to numerous reports, Michigan has offered Jim Harbaugh a 6 year contract worth a reported 48-49 Million. How desperate is Michigan? Do they really think that he is the answer to their woes? Do they really think that he can recruit on the same level as the Southern and Western teams, much less Ohio State and Notre Dame? Some say that this was leaked out to try and get more for a Harbaugh trade in the NFL. Oakland does not have that much to trade, do they?

This would make him the highest paid coach in the College ranks. Not bad for a guy who NEVER won so much as a Conference title at Stanford. He still is miles behind Urban Meyer and Mark Dantonio.

Two failed coaching hires back to back will really drop your program down in the college football hierarchy. Once you get down, its hard to get back these days in the college football arms race. Looks like desperation has set in Ann Arbor and now they are launching a Hail Mary attempt looking for a savior. Oakland should have plenty to offer in the way of high draft picks which are probably the most valued commodity besides QBs in the NFL.

Get a grip. He's not miles behind Meyer and Saban. In fact if he's hired at Michigan I can see Meyer's health problems start flaring up again. Harbaugh did a damn good job at Stanford. Just remember before Harbaugh, winning at Stanford was not a traditional thing. The long and short of it is Michigan fans are arrogant, and believe winning is an entitlement there because they are Michigan (whatever that means) so Harbaugh could have success there since he's pretty much an arrogant asshole himself. Given how Michigan is one of the richest schools in the country, they can afford the salary. But holy shat, that's a lot of money! If they hired him at that amount, brace yourselves, the elite coaches are about to get raises. But I have a feeling the Michigan fans are about to be very disappointed after Harbaugh takes the Oakland HC/GM job instead.

Harbaugh has NEVER won a Pac 10/12 championship. He never won a Superbowl. End of statement. Some coaches can lead teams to the brink, but simply cannot get them across the finish line. Harbaugh is one of those coaches. Harbaugh had one very good year at Stanford, even though they were crushed by Oregon, and barely got by USC and Arizona State. The other three years his record was a combined 17-20. If it were not for Andrew Luck, Harbaugh would be a no-name. Go, again I suggest to you to stick to the Big 12 and try not to act like you know anything about the Pac 12, because it is obvious that you really lack any knowledge in that area. I do agree that harbaugh will probably end up in Oakland, but he is a smug arse, so who knows.

You left out the word "Yet." Stop listening to the ESPN talking heads...I still have my doubts about Michigan when he'll have his choice between, Oakland, Miami, Chicago, NY.

What are you talking about? Do you think Harbaugh is a bad coach? He would be a no name without Andrew Luck? WTF! Dude went to 3 straight NFC title games and has the most wins in the NFL combined the previous 3 seasons. What were the 49ers before Harbaugh arrived? Essentially the exact same team that could not win shit.

As for Stanford, Harbaugh put Stanford back on the football map. Stanford had 5 straight losing seasons and was 1-11 before Harbaugh arrived. Did you forget him being a 41 point dog and beating USC at USC with backup QB Tavita Pritchard, not Andrew Luck. He eventually takes Stanford to a 12-1 record, #4 in the country. Hilarious that you even compare Stanford to USC and Oregon. Yeah, I am guessing 70% of the players on Oregon or USC could not even get into Stanford or even come close to getting the benefits the players on those programs get. Stanford can barely generate enough interest to sell out their home games.

All in all, Harbaugh can flat out coach. If not, why are all these teams salivating over him? He has a proven track record in the NFL and NCAA. So he never won a Super Bowl in the past 3 years. Guess what, only 3 coaches on this planet have and one was Tom Coughlin. Anyone banging down his door if he is fired by the Giants?

for such a fine school with great academic tradition, michigan fans all flunked basic history....they behave as if there is some winning tradition within the football program....no matter how lousy this team has played past few years, they all act shocked...they suck..they couldnt make a bowl playing in the big 10....give harbaugh what he wants

i agree. Harbaugh turned around a shitty Stanford program and a shitty Niners team in very short time frame. Michigan cant even get to a bowl game these days and Harbaugh would be a big splash hire for him

buuuuuuuuuuuuuut 8mil is ridiculous. 8mil total including incentives for winning the NC is ridiculous. Obviously it's what the market will bear but, it's just totally absurd.

How many coaches can take an NFL team to the brink of a championship in this day and age like Harbaugh has? This guy can coach.

Desperate move by Michigan.

Will be a great hire if they land him. But still desperate.

They go from paying Hoke less than $3 million to $8 million? Ridiculous!

I still wouldn't believe all of these reports of $8 million. I think it comes from a good agent generating more $ and interest for his client. Kind of like the UT offering $10 million or whatever it was to bring in Saban. It was never going to be that amount, even for Satan...

I hope Raiders don't pay him that much. Always known for overpaying everybody. Word has it Harbaugh's family wants to remain in the Bay Area. Raiders need to make his contract incentive-laiden. You still have to have the personnel to win, no matter how good of a coach you are.

i am not sold on harbaugh being so great tbh.. take andrew luck away from stanford and they are what we saw this year, also look at sf this year.. i think his style of coaching gets warn out fast, he is a dictator and beats his teams in to the ground.. my biggest wonder is what and the hell they do if he says no? their recruiting ship has sunk and they had little talent to begin with..

Biggdaddy- once again you've brought the entire forum to your thread to prove you're a simpleton.... Enfuego, sdf, and greenbacks all proved you wrong... Stop acting like you know everything about college football and sportsbetting.... It's beginning to become laughable. These guys dwarf you when it comes to knowledge of sports... Stop telling Gosooners he doesn't know anything about the pac 12... He probably knows more about college football in general than you do... You're a sham sir, simply a fraud.... Instead of rambling on and on, I suggest you do us all a favor and create season long picks thread to exercise your suppossed vast knowledge of sportsbetting... Stop actinng better than others and post your plays... Greenbacks does, enfuego does, sdf does ..... It's that simple

Once "mighty Michigan" is no more.....they are now just another Big-10 school trying to win a few games each year. The beginning of-the-end was when they lost to Appalachian State in the "big-house" a few years ago. Affirmative Action doesn't work in College Football.
