Wfan says it's pretty much a done deal.

Hope he can play first and the outfield for us also.

It's tough being a Met fan. :WTF:

he should pitch well there
He should in that park and that's a nice starting five.

Martinez
Glavine
Trachsel

But they need everyday players.

Peter Gammons reports Mets get Pedro on ESPN News just now - as Red Sox fan fine with me. No way Mets can afford both Pedro and Manny. Sox will keep Manny, Rentaria for sure and the Sox will have the Pedro money to go after the Unit if they want him. All in all the best news Red Sox Nation could hear.

PS. Props to Peter Gammons getting elected to baseball hall of fame as a writer.

Headline should read Mets pick up right handed Al Leiter only more expensive.

Why they wouldn't just sign Leiter for two years is beyond me. He was ninth in the league in ERA and "wanted" to play for the Mets. What more could you want????? Don't care how old he is.

I just think Minaya wants an all latin Met team. Might be able to do it. :)

I love the "METS" but their lineup consists of only 7 hitters. #8 &#9 are 2 automatic outs! Finally need a decent #8 hitter.

I think that even though Pedro might have lost a couple of MPH of his fastball last year, I'd still put him in the top 10 of MLB pitchers. Leiter's lucky to be in the top 50. I'm a diehard Mets fan, and watching any of Al's starts last year were just brutal. 5 IP, 120 pitches, 4BB, 4K, was about the norm.

I think the Mets are taking a decent risk here, but the potential for a big year is still there with Pedro. The most the Marlins can hope to get outta Leiter is 10 wins. Plus Pedro's only 33, Al's almost 40 and more concerned with his future broadcasting career.

booze frankly I hope you are right. I wish the Mets well and hope they have a big season. Pedro does still have some stuff and the Leiter remark was more satirical than anything else. The problem for the Mets is the extra guaranteed $14 million for the 4th year they are going to have to come up with to get Pedro. That 4th year option was the deal breaker with Pedro and the Sox. I can see Pedro winning 15 to 17 games in New York if they put together a reliable 3 man relief unit to finish for him. In 4 years Pedro will be getting $14 million for sigining autographs for the Mets.

exactly right. 7th and 8th inning have been major problems for them last couple of years, and trading Mike Stanton for Felix Heredia isn't the answer. Definitely some work needed in that area.

As a Red Sox fan I hate to see Pedro go but at least Red Sox nation has something to remember him by. I wish him well in New York and glad he will be playing for the Mets and not the Yankmees. Too bad Boston couldn't get Pavano then I wouldn't have felt so bad about losing Pedro. Pavano and Wright to the Yankmees is depressing.

Pretty strong words to live by, but hope your right. Anythings possible right now and way to early to speculate. We'll see what happens. Would have love to have obtained Pavano though.
