A single drive provided all sorts of hope for a previously mediocre Dolphins offense. Defending the run, however, doesn’t appear to be any easier for Miami this year. The Dolphins lost to the Atlanta Falcons 16-10 in Friday’s preseason opener, but the final score was meaningless. All eyes were on the Dolphins offense that scored 19.8 points per game last year, sixth-worst in the league and replaced former offensive coordinator Mike Sherman with up-and-comer Bill Lazor. Yet for everything that went right on offense, the Dolphins run defense — which ranked 24th of 32 NFL teams last year came out flat. Miami’s linebackers especially struggled against the run last year and it was more of the same Friday.Instead of signing or drafting a new starting linebacker, the Dolphins shuffled around the group this offseason.
