$1000 at ScotiaBank... But dollars are dispensed in only some locations. I know the one in (el cruce de San Rafael) Escazu dispenses dollars.

It only gives you $400 at a time though, but you can take out more you just need to do it in 3 transactions (when it asks if you want to perform another transaction say yes...).

Actually with credomatic I have been able to get even 600 out BUT I had a disturbing incident of 'no money out= money taken out of account' and now I am fighting that one with the issuer of the card

So for now I am scared of those damn credomatic machines :smoking:

thanks everyone for contributing with answers btw

I had that happen at a Texaco ATH machine on my Credomatic debit card. It took 20 phone calls to Credomatic and 4 months to get back the money (and no explanation on why it took 4 months -- it was supposed to be 60 days and they kept coming up with excuses on why 60 days hadn't passed yet -- 60 weekdays, 60 banking days (lots of bank holidays) -- until finally the math wouldn't work anymore, and yet they still tried.

I made a withdrawal with a foreign ATM card on a BAC machine in dollars, that apparently didn't have dollars. ("Take your money notice", lots of noise, what 5 minutes and it says "Error"). Got charged $5 for the withdrawal and $5 for the withdrawal reversal. And not knowing that I was stupid enough to try again.

I can take out $1000 per day per card on a BAC ATM using BAC cards. You can probably do that in two transactions, but I prefer to break it into three ($400 + $400 + $200). The $1000 limit applies even changing ATMs, so it's a bank enforced limit, which you can probably have them raise.

My other cards have $500 per day limits, so I haven't had a chance to try more than $1000 on an ATM.

.

this is NOT encouraging, if it took 4 months with your BAC card I can only imagine what they are going to do to me since the card this happened to ......was NOT one of their own

I can only threaten them with cancelling one of the two credit cards I have with them........ very high limits and they make a lot out of the commision they get on the purchases.......we will see

I've had this happen to me to, I am almost positive it is when the machine runs out of bills to dispense the amount you asked for, mere speculation on my part but all the noise you can tell that it is trying to count bills and switching trays etc and then ziltch

just to keep this updated with what I've found (in case anyone ever finds it useful)

BNCR, they do give dollars BUT only to their customers, took me a while to figure this out until I went with my brother to the bank and then I saw that the menu he got when he put his servibanca card was totally different from what I got, max withdrawal in colones , at least 400k

BCR, these guys are now my choice , at least 700 dollars, not all machines give dollars though

HSBC and other ATH locations give dollars at max 400 dollars but the commision is pretty darn high, 6 dollars for 400, you can get more from what I have found through other people but my bank will block the card if they see two withdrawals one after the other

so in other words, BCR here I go

Both BCR and BAC will give me up to $700 in USD, but only at certain locations, using a debit card from the states.

The banks HSBC bought had ridiculously high commissions and bad exchange rates. I recall Banex charging me more than $10 for an ATM withdrawal.

Cuscatlan had a pretty decent fee, $3 if I recall. Of course that's Citibank now.
