Does anybody have an opinions on this game? Please post. I am alumni of Virginia Tech and am bias towards VT -10, but maybe if I see enough comments as to why I should take Maryland +10 I'll change my mind.
I am a hokie as well. I would consider the under. Of course I thought that was golden against GT as well, until the last 5 minutes of the game. VA Tech still has problems scoring TDS inside the 20 and Maryland is having problems offensively period.
Maryland's offense is HORRIBLE! Tech's defense is AWESOME! We've seen Lane Statdium turn good football teams into crappy ones! I don't see anyway VT loses this game. On the other hand, it is November, and every Hokie knows what that means...disappointment.
This is turning into a Hokie Alum thread. GO HOKIES!! Anyone else want to give Kirk Herbstreit props for picking the Hokies to win the ACC?
I'm a WVU fan who grew up a few miles from Collage Park (U of M) and have been to Blacksburg a number of times. I think VT wins and covers going away. Even in their game against Florida State the Terps offense has been dismal (not bad against WVU but I think the Eers are way over-rated this year). Maryland's offense might not score a point (team total 15.5 Oly) and game total of 39 (was 40) is low as hell for a college game even WITH two good defenses. But as you all know sometime a VERY good defense (much less two) equates to point on their own. Throw in the ever present VT specail teams and you might see more D/ST points than offense points.
Something to play for factor: Terps: chasing .500 Hokies: chasing conference championship in there first year I like VT big here and, to a lesser degree, the over. The public disagrees on both because both lines are going the other way.
My card: VT -9 -- 550 to win 500 VT over 39 -- 330 to win 300 VT -½ (1st qtr) -- 270 to win 200 U of M team total under 15.5 -- 230 to win 200
4 Team 14pt Teaser -- 300 to win 200 VT +5 VT Over 25.5 Temple +28 Rutgers +17.5 (heck, wouldn't be gambling if I didn't do one guilty pleasure (read: dumb-ass) bet)
Sorry, I was starting another thread before I saw this one. Agree with these assessments. I gave Maryland credit for 10 points, but two field goals may be more realistic. Virginia Tech special teams will be the difference here. Not betting the house, but am doubling my normal wager. Luck to all this week. HOOS
I am making the treck down to Blacksburg, to see my beloved Terps tomorrow. I would expect this game to be really low scoring. I could see Maryland getting up for this game. I won't touch either side, but I like the under. Anyone else heading to the game? I hope its at least an exciting game to make the trip worthwhile.
stx: I was worried that VT might be looking ahead, but I'd like to think it is a different team than it was in previous years. For one there is no QB controversy. Randall is the man and everyone knows it (I believe this was a big part of their demise last season). VT's WRs are awesome this year and are capable of making big plays. Most importantly it seems this year they are a team. I don't know about you, but I have my Team United bracelet!
If I was Frank Beamer I would make damn sure everyone realized we are taking this one game at a time. I think any advantage Maryland may have gotten from VT possibly looking ahead is cancelled out by the home field advantage.
I'm going against a lot of people here, but I disagree with the under. I think if the Hokies get ahead early, they'll just keep on scoring. Imoh ran for 243 yards last game at Chapel Hill against a UNC team that beat Miami, there is no saying what he'll do against a crap Terps defense. I am also calling that Eddie Royal will run a punt return for a touchdown and Jimmy Williams will have an interception. The Hokies had a bye week which gave them plenty of time to rest and prepare for this game. They know the ACC championship is on the line.
I am a season ticket holder for the Terps. Most of their offensive problems recently have to do with the offensive line being banged up. The extra rest since UVA will do nothing but help. I'll take my chances with Maryland's D getting 10 points. They did beat Florida State the week before and held a very good Wahoo offense to 16 points. The Fridge will take advantage of the extra days to come up with some way to score. Maryland is desperate as they must win to go bowling. Keep hitting those Hokies. Maryland outright.
How do you figure V Tech can get 35? The most MD has given up this year to anyone is 22. Is Virginia Tech's offense 2 TD's better than the rest of the ACC? Virginia scored 16 last week. D'qwell Jackson might be the best defensive player in the ACC and this includes Antrel Rolle.
