I have been told this is a done deal, simply working through the final details.

It is a nice hire for the U.

Guess Richt had plans to retire in Florida and this was part of it. Smart man, smart man...

Very good hire. Will be interesting to see if he has the fire to rebuild that program. He can turn that program around quickly w/ the right staff and recruiting. I figured the job was Cristobol's.

Isn't Richt a former Miami QB? Perfect guy to run such a classless program...

I think this is a great hire for the Canes. Guessing ole Richt has a fire up his ass to prove
Georgia made a mistake.

Mark is in pretty strong company as a coach. Only Bob Stoops, Tom Osborne and Barry
Switzer had more wins in their first 14 seasons.

Another interesting tidbit about Richt and Miami.

Richt inherits a team that went 8-4 this season and returns 9 starters back on offense
including the entire offensive line and a 2 year starter at QB who has passed for over
6000 yards the past two seasons.

By the way, some other 8-4 teams during the regular season are Southern Cal, UCLA,
LSU and Texas A&M. Richt will get the one year honey-moon but he won't need it, there
is some talent coming back for the Hurricanes. Miami is in the weak Coastal Division of
the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Hope you kick ass Coach!!

The biggest thing going for Richt is he is now in a much easier conference to win in. I think he'll do well there... But I still hate Miami...

Yeah GS, the ACC is not a slugfest like the SEC week in and week out.

Miami's first three games are Florida Atlantic, Florida A&M and Appalachian State so good possibility of 3-0 start. The other non-conference game will be more difficult when the Canes travel to Notre Dame.

ACC Schedule:

Home: Duke, North Carolina, Pitt and Florida State
Road: Ga Tech, Virginia, Virginia Tech and North Carolina State

I don't want to go to overboard but Richt could win 9 or 10 his first year.

I expect they'll win at least 9 next year.

Your comment about Richt being one of the only coaches to win as many games is a bit skewed however. When Switzer, Osborne and company won those games they only played 11 regular season games and had no conference championship. I imagine Urban, Jimbo and a few others will easily exceed that win total.

some really good hires hitting the ACC who have historically been reluctant to pay coaches the power-5 wage. Jimbo pushed the envelope and we'll see some big raises coming for Narduzzi, Fedora, and Swinney. Richt is going to be at, or above, $4M and Fuente hitting the board at a big rate at VT. ACC finally understanding that the man in charge is worth a lot of money in today's CFB.

A note from UVA site said they had first shot at Richt but refused to pay $4M+ so did not offer.... enter Miami FL

looks like UVA down to Rhule and Brohm who are both <$700k right now so appear to be in line to triple or quadruple their annual paycheck with a UVA move

btw speaking of Richt someone posted that the 1982 Miami 4-deep at QB was:

Jim Kelly
Bernie Kosar
Vinny Testaverde
Mike Richt

in today's world of star-ratings and elite 11's is there any doubt that at least 2 of them would have transferred out by now? :)
